I appreciate that - I don't HAVE to have it, I was just getting it because I want to up compression that extra little bit when I do rebuild #1. Rebuild #2 will probably be a 450 at about that same compression ratio of 12.5:1 - if ya need it go ahead and I'll leave it alone. I am sure I'll run into another sooner or later. I have a couple places I could ask and I'm pretty sure I could acquire one. Just let me know. No reason for fellow Cannondalers to raise prices on each other if we don't have to

Thanks, The unit I purchased will more than likely need a rebuild pretty soon, if its all the same to you I will continue to bid on it.

I sure didn't expect to find this thread over here, lol

The Wiseco without the sleeve is not a good idea, the Wiseco and the stock 02/03 pistons use different clearances.

The pistons are allready made, it's the sleeves that are slowing things down a bit, and I talked to Haydug tonight and he will be getting extruded nicosil sleeves, not the steel ones.

I've got a motor on the bench now and will probably hold off a couple weeks for the 450. I've got a new 02 piston/sleeve and a set of gapless rings to replace the one with the oversized index mark, but I'll still probably wait on the 450.

And, Haydug is going to have the gapless rings made to fit the 450.

I am still waiting to find out what effect the Wiseco 450 will have on crank ballance. I have a new 02 billet crank to put in my motor, and it's been gone through by Big Winky with bearings and rod clearance fixed, and I'd hate to have it unballanced now.

Thanks for that info Jay... maybe I better just wait and get a 450 as well. Do you know what the compression ratio is on the 450 Wiseco? I was hoping to stay as high as possible on 93/94 ... say 12.5:1 max. Thanks.

They built the stock bore pistons to 01 spec, I'm almost positive the 450 is the same just piston just a little larger

I have heard heard from the factory guys that the compression drop from 01-02 did not effect performance, so I probably would'nt expect much gain with the stock bore Wiseco, although it is a better quality piston.

I believe I've read that as well, Jay ... but I, in my own mind, attributed that to a blowby problem in the early pistons.. what do you think? That is the only way I can see, all other things being equal, that a lower compression motor would make less power or equal power than a higher compression motor. At least apart from turbos and superchargers and the like.... where lower compression means more boost is attainable. Maybe the power was slight but I have also read that the FX400's are quicker - I've heard that attributed to both piston and cams. ? Just trying to learn.

I will be awaiting this Wiseco and the gapless ring set, in a 450 version. My hope is to make a lot of power but that if I use high quality parts to start with (Wiseco piston w/gapless rings, Carillo rod with a balanced crank, Stage 8 and loctite, maybe Web Cams, etc....) that I can make this thing as reliable as anything else around.

Installation date should be .... early spring. I can't wait to see those YFZ's and Hondas

I rode a FX400 a few weekends ago.It doesnt have more power on top but it is more responsive with better lowend. What the factory guys say in public and what they say in private are two different things alot of the time.Getting info from them is like pulling teeth from a tiger!

I've got a good pair of pliers, I'll make some calls on Monday and pull some teeth.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanks Jay!

PS: are ya gonna make that group ride late enough in the spring so that us young turkeys are out of school? I'd really like to make the trip but understand if an earlier time is better for everyone else.
