Default 450 or 525 ?

Hi I was looking at buying a KTM 450 OR 525. I was wondering witch one is better? What are the major diferences in the 2? I own a kfx 400 right now and am looking to upgrade. I am an experienced rider over 20 years and am retired from racing. Just going to be trail riding. I recently had 2 kids and have been out of the atv loop for a while. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

1) If you aren't racing consider one of the Jap 450's or even the Polaris models with the KTM motor. You will likely save some good $$ and find it easier to get upgrades down the road.

2) If you plan on putting the 540 big bore in, get the 450 upfront as it is the same motor either way, but you save a few hundred on the bottom line.

3) If you ever plan to race something that would restrict you to 450cc(mx mostly) stick with the 450.

4) Any other reason go 525...

The only difference is about 60cc of piston volume. The rest of the quads are identical. The stock 525 is plenty powerful for your average weekend warrior and is super torquey, but on either the suspension may be fairly stiff for the more leisurely trail rides.

If you're riding trails, I would suggest the 525. More power.

KTM sure has odd motor names, they call there 510cc a 525 and the 477cc a 505! Whats up with that?

I agree. I think it should be a law to call it what it really is! This kinda falls in the false advertising category I would think.
