My son has "graduated" from his first bike which was an auto 70cc chinese bike. He wants to race and I don't want to go crazy price-wise on a 2 stroke until I know he can handle it. Found a 99 KTM 50 and the guy is asking $650. Clean bike, all stock. Any suggestions? Anything to be aware of? Thanks in advance...

The little 99 50 used the Moto Morini engine that you really had to maintain,especially the clutch. These little ones would rev to the moon and was a serious little race machine. Some parts are beginning to show NLA. My two cents is I'd look at a later model that was a tad more reliable and parts availability is better.
