moded raptor vs. moded canondale???

damn straight ....!
And the 350cc powervalve 250r would probably kill anything out there. And for the money you can't beat them. Try looking at how many nice totally tricked 250r's you can find in the www.cycletrader.com. Its unbelieveable. I even saw a Lager, Durablue, 310cc, Ohlins +2+1 250r with everything chromed and set up for desert racing for $4,700.00 I would like to see a Cannondale go up against that machine. OR better yet buy that machine, and put another $2k into it for a 350cc powervalve brand new motor, and kill almost everything out there for a measily 6,700.00. If the price is right, there are several machines I would take. I'm also keeping my eye out for a tricked out chassis on a banshee with extended a arms and aftermarket shocks (not works). So I could put in one of those 400cc engines for about 2k as well. It's amazing what you can buy and do to an ATV for less than 8-7k.

Ok cctman. Everyone on this post has disagreed with you.. Now its my turn!
When you go buy a 250R, you are buying 1986-1989 technology. I will stand up and tell you that I think that the 250R is the best quad ever built, to a point. You are also buying a 10 year old engine. Yes, it may have a BRAND NEW ENGINE(kit) but, the mechanics of it are dated. I race, and I do know what racing does to an engine. Racing a 2 stroke requires high RPM, and high RPM destroys an engine. You probably know about the engine wear that goes along with racing already, though. Given, you cannot beat that machine. A full Laeger 310R could quite possibly be the best setup ever for MX, but the duners probably wouldn't think so. I think the "to each his own" thing hits the nail right on the head.
Also, for the money, Cannondale ATVs are worth it. I'm going to compare it to a 400EX, and I know the Cannondale is a little nicer than it. I haven't run the prices on new EX's lately, but I'm going to take a stab at $5,500OTD. Okay, take your $5500, buy a set of ITP wheels(what.. like $75 a peice?? CHEAP!) Okay, thats $300. $5,800. FMF designed the pipe for the Cannondale, and to my knowledge, the MegaMax and PowerCOre IV-SA are the only 4-stroke FMF. I am thinking the C-Dale comes with a PowerCore type silencer, so I'm going to say it has an FMF powerbomb header and the PowerCore silencer. There's another $440. $6240. I'm not sure on how much the Ohlins shocks are(I don't prefer Ohlins, but, what the heck) but I hear somewhere around $600.(If you know the correct price, you can add it in instead of my figure). There's $6840. Plus a set of Holeshots-$164. Hmm, that's $7,004. Sandgod says that place is selling FX400's for $5995. You can probably get the FX for $6,500 OTD. Looks to me like you save $500 PLUS shipping and handling for the mods. Unless you were to buy a used 400EX.. But then I'd be comparing apples to oranges. Also, with the FX, you'd be buying state of the art technology, and a great frame.
I'm not saying you're wrong, everyone has their opinion, but I just thought I'd throw some figures at you.

I could have bought a very tricked out USED R,Shee,EX,or Raptor for the money that Im paying for my FX, but I would have had to bought one with cash money. Cash money is something that I didnt and still dont have. So I did the best thing I think and that is Finance the most awsome stock quad in production. Now if I had the kind of money to go out and buy a tricked out quad for $4,000.00 and then add more mods to it for a total of around $8,000.00,or just flat out buy one for $8,000.00. I still dont think thats what I would have done. If I had that kind of money I would have made a bigger down payment on the most high tech quad out (Cannondale), and used the rest to turn it into a Moto which a person will very soon be able to do, with the help of RS performance and other after market compainies and still have a little left to do what ever with. As far as used vs new you guys tell me, how does a new $5,250.00? EX with $1,000.00 in mods compare to a used $6,250.00 R? It dosent does it? but people buy them up like every day. Do they get asked the question why did you spend that much when you could have had this for this much and put this on for this much ect. and had a better quad. I dont think there is a problem with the C-Dale or the C-Dale price. I think the problem is people dont realize the whole reality of the quad and price. When Suzuki, and Honda puts there new one out Its going to be the same thing. Do you think Honda will put out a better bike than the EX and sell it at the same price or lower? I say when they come out with one a person will still be able to buy a used R or EX with the same amount of money in the used quads and have a better one than the new quad. That is unless Honda makes a new R with the tech. that the aftermarket has come up with or a new 4-stroke thats EFI. Does anyone think the Moto 440 will be able to compete with the other quads in the Nationals? What about the $15,000.00-$20,000.00 4-strokes? I do because there is only so much you can do with old tech. The Moto will be new tech, and maybe with room for a few little improvements EFI mapping, porting ect. Also what about the C-Dale warranty?

I don't no guys....
I mean you say 10 year old chassis and engine, but I have never heard of anybody having a 250r engine just fall apart on them. And when i bought my 250r it had a brand new cylinder $400.00 installed that I had to finish breaking in, and the bottom had been ompletely gone through and replaced all seals and stuff. As far as the frame goes. Its not to hard to look for bent/ broken spots on frames if you know what your looking for. Plus mine was powdercoated and guseted anyways. Just as strong as any new quad frame out there if not stronger. Plus if you are talking about running Lagear a arms/ swing arm, durablue axle, new cylinder, and the frame is reinforced for crying out loud what else is left? OK you got me stearing stem. But I have never had problems with any 250r's. There bullet proof. I know I didn't get the time to ride a lot on the Cannondale but still, I mean come on ... what is more fun then letting the throttle open as you swing the a$$ end out on the top of a dune with 40 to 50 hp on tap? I will tell you nothing even comes close... Except maybe those 30+ foot jumps. Man I wish I had a bigger sand box closer to me.
Oh yeah I almost forgot there is something to say about that smell of burning 2 stroke gas...
Ahhh ...just call me old school. It drover me nuts to ride with the 250r guys when I tried 4 strokes and bought my 400ex before my recent 250R.
The coolest thing I had ever seen was a memory that will stick forever in my head. I lived close to Little Sahara Sand Dunes in Utah years ago, and I remember an extremely moded banshee chase down a extremely moded 250R ATC and they took turns spraying each other off the sides of the bowl. It was awsome, addicting! And damn_ they were quick!!

cctman, I understand what you're saying. The 250R has proven itself many times over. BUT, as a racer/HUMAN BEING, you will lose money in it. Just think, motorcross.com recommends 2 pistons a year. Last time I checked, Wiseco don't give them away.
Don't get me wrong, I'd ride an R over most other quad out there. But I think that I'd BUY a C-Dale over an R because of the great company backing, warranty, and technology.
Different Strokes for Different Folks Though

cctman. Yeah baby, give em hell. I love it. Man thats alot of post to read. I think if cctman didn't know what he was talkin about. He would of stopped replying along way back. i don't know. he has alot of good points. Whats even funnier is watching you guys repeatedly trying to discredit him. Give it up...
Fact is, i don't think Tim Farr is worried about what Doug Gust or Jeremiah Jones is riding. He just wants to know if they have showed. it's the man not the machine. the machine is a factor but jumping on Tim Farrs YZ426 is not going to make me a pro.
