The coating on the left sidecase (the large case) the is peeling off just like you would peel an apple. Just wondering if anyone else's is doing the same.

WOW! This is a new one. Ive been running my FX very hard since June and mine hasnt shown any signs of this. I may be wrong but it looks like the coating is very durable. I would contact the dealer where you bought it from and see if they can help. If not contact Cannondale.

Cdaleracer, the FX's didn't come with the coating, it came on the Cannibals to protect the anodized side case.

WOW! This is a new one. Thanks Moto 24 for setting me strait. No wonder mine shows no signs of peeling. Ive heard of all the other different things on the Cannibal, but not this. I hope my dealer has one in stock when I go this weekend so I can check the Cannibal out. Is the anodized side case black or is it another color?

My 2001 FX 400 engine # 264 has the cam gear sidecase with a metallic gold coating. It appears to be a epoxy type paint. The case underneath the coating is very smooth so the coating didn't stick very well. It started next to the oil filter and is working it's up.

Ok my mistake I didn't realize they started putting the coloring on the FX's, I have #185 and I hadn't seen or heard of any FX's with that on it. I have seen the Cannibal and was told by my dealer it was anodized and it looked like it had a clear coating over that, GAR did you get the new fasteners and the longer shift lever too?

I thought the gold cover was what you were talking about and then I thought that maybe you were talking about the clutch cover(black) Anyway mine has this gold metallic coating. I dont know what process they use to put it on, but I would think every step would have to be done right or it wont last very long. I would let Cannondale know about it and see how they can help you out. I would imagine with the coating off for a few months the side case will be very ugly, you could always have it chromed (I think). Sorry Im not able to help you out much.

Moto 24, No I don't have the new style fasteners and I'm guessing that I have the longer shifter cause it is plenty long enough for even my Tech 8's to fit in. My FX shifts so smooth and effortlessly. Clutch or no clutch it shifts perfectly all the time. I absolutely love to ride the machine. You have to be on your toes at all times, it's great.
The update's I have done are A-arm bushings, ball joints, clutch springs, spindles and dipstick gasket all for free. I just was told that new tie rods and ends are on the way. You gotta hand it to Cdale they appear to be taking care of business. Please understand I have only had two (2) problems with mine. The A-arm bushings were binding and now the peeling on the case. First one has been corrected, the suspension is great, we'll see about the sidecase. GAR

I was told by the head of tech support (motorsports div)that the prob has been fixed, new coating process in place on all future production and that since they all didnt do it, it is being handled case by case to resolve. Once again ,they are on it! I would contact your dealer about the problem, it should be painless..
