Many other companies will offer you an extended warranty. Cannondale has resolved most, if not all of the problems so you should be very reliable. Besides, Cannondale stands behind their product so if something were to break and it was a design flaw, they would most likely fix it for free. But don't think that just because something broke it's their fault! Go with the Cannibal, especially if you ever go to a track!

There are some cannondale dealers that do offer extended warranties through third party companies that specialize in that. If you go back through some old threads here on the cannondale forum, you will find the names of a couple of those companies.

I was looking at the same thing. Raptor or Cannondale.
I choose Cannondale.

Several reasons.
1. Americian Made.
2. Higher level of tech.
3. Weak frams on Raptors I'm dealing with someone who sells both.
4. Perforamce I can re-map the Fuel injection and pick up horse power with out doing anything else.
5. Better componets
6. Better handeling
7. Different not everyone has it.
8. Aluminum Frame easy to polish and cheaper than powerdercoat.

That's some of the reasons anyway. When I was at Dumont Dunes the raptors didn't impress me the way the Cannondales did on the hill, whoops.

Does any one know anything about the remapping of the engine. Can it be done on the fly while actually riding the bike or does it involve being hooked up to the computer with the software?

The computer can store 3 different maps, and you can get a handlebar mounted switch to change them on the fly. Not sure exactly how much that setup cost, but I think you would also need the PC kit to get the maps into the system.

Tell me more about this mapping - I mean if more HP is available with a different software program, then why not just come from the factory with the hottest program possible?
I suppose maybe some tracks favor a milder tuned machine - is this why?
Does the same computer control ignition timing? If so, does the mapping software allow this to be modified too, so power characteristics can be tweeked at specific points throughout the rev?

Not sure about ignition timing, I'm know expert. I know you can setup maps to give different power bands, for instance if your in a tight section of a track you want the map with the best lowend and when you hit a long open strech hit the map buttom and switch to topend power.

I took a look at the Real-Time Rider Trim from Optimum power technology (www.optimum-power.com) and on the web, it was priced at $1500 for their full kit. Also for the real techno warriors, you could add the PocketPC software for another cool $1000....so you didn't have to carry a full blown pc out to the track or dunes. Looks like a bunch o bucks to gain 6 HP on the fly...neat idea though, to change where your power band is on the fly or on the track.....just my humble opinion.
