Went to check one out today, pretty nice. Weird though, two were sitting there, and each had different aspects. The one had the gp1000 mapping and the other 500? What the heck is the real difference? Also are they generally going for the same price? The guy went on about upgrading to a gp1000 mapping right on the spot, how much are those and what really do they do different? One was hydraulic one was not. Each had ohlins suspension and holeshots with itp rims. One had thin plastic(with the hydraulic clutch) the other had real thick plastic mold injection. Weird. The reason why those suckers are so loud is because of that compression wow! They had one of those fx400's there they fired up, they revved it way to the moon, i was suprised it didnt blow up. I personally didnt like the way the dealership was with everyone. Had a real stern attitude, and that cannondale was just the be all end all thing. I talked to the mechanic, real nice guy luckily he was standing around.

By the way, how long do you think they'll be putting on the ohlins suspension and how long do you think they'll be around in stores? i gotta get rid of my 400EX first, hopefully this week

I loved that steel braided brakeline and frame, and that fuel filter didnt look bad at all. The chain adjustment was weird, how do you go about changing the tension? Looks like a pretty awesome quad. Felt very very weird when sitting on it though, I imagine a bar change will do that good.
only thing i really didnt like was the magnesium motor cover(?) and the loudness but oh well thats ok. Weird they turned the whole motor around too but hey, its something different. Its VERY hard to part with my 400ex, I hope the cannibal will be as good and as reliable.

First, don't buy the one with the EC500 computer, that was Cannondales fuel injection system. The EC1000 is the aftermarket fuel injection by GP, much more reliable. I'm assuming their asking less money for the EC500 Cannibal? Late last year, Cannondale was going to charge over $1000 for people with the EC500 to upgrade to the new EC1000, don't know if the price has come down or not. Weight that you would mention the plastic, I did not know they had changed the thickness of the plastic. What were they asking for each quad? Supposedly the Ohlin shocks are not suppose to be coming out on any more Cannibals but I guess a few are still tricking out to dealers or these are still leftovers. The motor being noisy is actually due to the cassette transmission more than the motor. The chain adjustment is easy, loosen the 4 bolts on the rear of the swingarm and use a steel dowel or phillips screwdriver, insert it in the holes on the bearing carrier and move up or down, whatever your needs are. This setup is the same as my 250R. Takes about 60 seconds to adjust. Fuel filter replacement takes a couple minutes and the filters are $2.09 and O'reilly auto parts.

you are right PRS, the early cannibals do have much thicker plastic. The newer 'dales are more like other quads. You can upgrade the ECU(computer) from the 500 to the 1000 for $459 from r/s or cannondale. I don't doubt the 1000 is better, but the 500 hasn't given me any problems. I suspect it has a more sudden on/off throttle transition that is harder to get used to though. Dealers are freaky. Who knows what game they're playing this week.

Being that all the bikes and quads share a common motor, we have numbers working for us, not against. I thought $10.71 for a oil filter at the dealer was kind of extreme though. I called FRAM and they don't make on yet. Anybody know who the OEM supplier is? Have anyone called for commonly broken parts, sub-frame, brakes, clutches that sort of thing.

Are you talking about an oil filter for the C'dales? They are reuseable, just clean it and reinstall. Sorry if you are referring to another quad's oil filter!

briansgi,

Just for clarification. The MC500 was completely made by a company called Sagem, that includes the hardware and software. The MC1000 hardware is made by Sagem and the control software is done by Optimum Power. The MC500 is non-programmable, you can change the fueling a little bit but it doesn't have the versatility that the MC1000 does. Sorry for the late reply but I've been down at Okeechobee since last Thursday.
