why Arvins not ohlins?

Because the Cannibal is the "budget" quad of the bunch. Cannondale went threw many different production Cannibal's with different parts before sticking with one, and the Arvins are part of them now. They are still quality shocks, just not as much as Ohlins are, I guess.

Well yeah, it is a step back... Cannondale was looking for ways to cut down the production costs of the Cannibal and changing to the cheaper Arvins was one of the things they had to do. They're still good shocks. You should still be able to find some Cannibals w/ Ohlins. Mine has them.

They may have chose a more inexpensive shock for the Cannibal than what was previously on the Cannibal but look at the upgrades you now get. The FX400's last year and the older Cannibals did not have the new fuel injection system which is alot more reliable. That's a $1000 option if you want to get that for the older quads.
Now one thing I wish Cannondale and the dealers would allow is the option of swapping out the Arvin shocks with Ohlins at a price, they're certainly easy enough to change. Something for Cannondale to think about.

i'd trade my MC500, Ohlins, cable clutch, and swingarm for the new arvin shocks, a hydraulic clutch, MC1000, and reinforced swingarm in a second. i think the new cannibals are a better deal.(the new cannibals also have different plastic which looks better)

Uh... I believe the only plastics difference is that they are thinner on the newer ones (about the same thickness as a 400ex, 300ex, Raptor, etc...) and the older ones (like mine) has thicker plastics. I also have the 1000 computer and as far as I can see, the reinforcement on the swing arm is just added weight that I don't want. The GP Control would be a nice thing to have and they say the new mapping is smoother but I like the feel of my powerband. Kind of a 2-stroke feel w/ more traction.... very sweet.

Well hell, I guess I got the best of both worlds . I got Ohlins all around, the 1000 computer, ITP aluminum wheels (.190's)... mine doesn't have the red and green "stop, start" buttons though. I got the little green button to start, and a run/off switch... your's doesn't have that? So I guess you got the "big" red and green buttons? I have model # 334.

YoDaddy, mine's identical to yours, vin 498. I believe that is one way to tell which computer you have without actually looking at it is what start/stop buttons do you have. If you have the 2 buttons, you more than likely have the ECM500 computer, the start button and the slide off/on switch, you have the new ECM1000. Of course that logic may not be 100% accurate!
