Whats wheels are the best for the woods, trails, sand-- anything besides track riding? i am going to keep my stock Speed tires for the track because they get to banged up too much in the woods. which wheels also have the best look? The douglas ultimates look pretty nice and heard are good and i also heard the new carbon fiber wheels are good but arent they made for the track? Also what tires? Thanks

 

even opinions would help . i'm sure several of you have changed them and have some thing to say . even if it is negative !!

 

For general use, I would get a rolled edge rim like the new Douglas Ultimate line or ITP T-9 series. If you feel like you need something stronger, then look at getting rims with reinforcing rings and/or beadlocks. The Hyper carbon fiber rims are tough. If you've got the money, I would say they would last just about forever for general trail use. As far as tires, you really can't go wrong with Holeshots or Razrs. If you ride in a lot of sand, maybe look at the Pure Sport Realtor.

 

Well here's a tire that doesn't get mentioned much but why don't you try getting some Desert Dogs? They are supposed to be really good and they're 6-ply. I don't really see why you would want to use your stock wheels or tires on the track... they're terrible. The tires will grab to much in the corners, makin you feel like your a dirt bike racer, and the wheels will get flat spots and dents in them like crazy. Go with some rolled edge if you ride a lot of trails and beadlocks if you ride the tracks a lot.

 

What wheels would look nicer on my Speed? the Hiper carbon Yellow ring wheels or the Douglas ultimates? Thanks

 

I say go for the Hypers w/yellow rings, I think that would look pretty sweet. My R is getting silver plastic with blue grahpics eventually and I plan on getting Hypers with blue rings. Of course that is all dependant on budget. At this point I still have to get it back together first.

I have a set of the Hyper techs on my speed and love them. I'm Planning on getting the yellow rings later on. As for tires I like the 22x11x9 Holeshots for woods racing. They are an alround good tire and they don't have as much sidewall slide like the razor do. As for up front I like Pure Sports bandit 23x7x10. They have great steering in mud and since they come precut & grooved they don't pull you into ruts like some of the other tires. Both these tires are 6 ply rating. Now for heavy mud, snow, or sand. I tires I go for in the back would be those Pure Sport Realtors (I just pitty the guy behind me, because they tend to pick up stuff and shot it at high speeds). If you don't plan on racing I would save a little money and buy the douglas ultimates. As for the tires, that's up to yoou, but I would buy a set on 22's on the back do to the low rear ground clearance. I don't know how many times I got hung-up do to 20" rear tires in ruts (this is now as bad of problem w/ taller tires). Good luck and let us know what you decide.
