a arms and spindle
#1
is there a trick to get the front spindle to release off the a arms . i've tried to knock them out with a rubber mallet and with a chock block as to not dammage the shaft , i did release the retaining clip fron the inner side and removed the castle nuts fron the shaft though it still slides though does not release my spindle .
i've had to remove the assy in one piece to grease the inserts so i feel no more binding .
i know a few of ya changed a arms to 2 + i'm not ready to change em just lubing for smoother action
Thanks in advance Niels

I didn't remove my spindles to free up the a-arm movement/travel. I just unbolted the a-arms at the mounts after unbolting the front shocks at the bottom mount. You can do all of this with the quad sitting up on it's grab bar. Take out the a-arm bolts, remove the insert on each end of the mount for the upper and lower arm....hope this helps, JIM

I had my a-arms off about a month ago to lube them the sleeves were stuck in the bushings so bad I had to force them out.I also noticed that in the frame a-arm brackets the sleeves actually wore into the frame. Why?Because the sleeve isnt supposed to spin on the bolt the sleeve is designed to be stationary and the bushings are supposed to pivot on the sleeve. What I ended up doing is taking a little bit of material off each side of the bushings to account for the wear in the a-arm mounts put new sleeves in with grease and I tightened them very tight I didnt tourque them but it was way more than 12lbs.Pretty much as tight as I could get them I then checked to make sure the arms werent binding.I have the old style of sleeves the new ones have a flange which will prevent the problem I had. The new sleeves wont fit the old a-arm mounts. When you guys have your a-arms off check for wear from the sleeves being bound up.

i have aluminun bushings inside that i did pry out with a screw driver the rubber gasket inside was not all bunched up or dammaged though i did notice on the lower front arm had gouged a bit on the mounting area so i filed it nice and smooth and greased inside the rubber grommet and then inserted the alum bushings and greased inside the shaft assemblied every thing and it sure feels a lot better .

I got the same sleeves which were in there from cannondale they are steel.Like I said the sleeves on the 2003 and late 2002 quads have a flange on the end of them mine dont I may try to get these new ones to fit mine but I would have to really rework the arms because the new arms have a wider sleeve area.Probably I will just buy a new Dale this fall.
