What does it take to Sponser someone.
#1
All,
I am trying to get the name of my business out to a few different areas. So what do racers want from a sponser? I can't give anyone a multi million dollar deal, but I'm sure something can be arranged.

Smitty,
I help sponsor a friend's race car and it's up to the racer and you. I give so much per year and he puts company name on car and does a little sales speech when I need it. It does help and it does get the name out especially when he wins and the announcer talks over the pa system.

You could also sponser a track.Maybe prety easy.Just buy them some
flag bariers with your company logo on them for them to line there track.
You can also think about ofering some riders riding gear with your logo on it.
I can use some new gear,Hint, hint.

Hey Smitty, glad to hear you're looking to help some guys out.
Sponsorship is a great way to get a new company started, and a great way for a local/amature rider to get started in the racing career. To be a good sponsor, you must have what a racer wants/needs. I haven't seen much of your stuff, but I did check that light out. It should be pretty easy for you to pick up some guys, and that stuff is pretty noticable.
Most companies offer levels of sponsorship. A(class) level sponsorship can get up to 50-67% off products, and downgraded from there. I believe my GS3 sponsorship is around 20% off, but I have yet to make a purchase from them. Get some stickers made up, and keep searching. If you have any more questions, PM me, i'd be more than happy to help you out.

Glad to hear that you are considering helping racers out.
All I can say is "Beware of Dog".
Most guys that you help out do their part by purchasing products from you and referring their friends to all do business with you.....However..the majority of the racers only want to know what they can get and usually, after they get it, you never hear from them again.
We sponsor close to 200 motorcycle and ATV racers in the South and Southeast, and a little more than a dozen abroad.
Our plan is pretty simple really.
#1-Proove that you are a racer...pics of the quad and a pic of you and your quad WITH a plaque or trophy is really nice. No letters or resumes...we aren't that strict...just a pic
#2-Depending on how good you are depends on what you receive. 10% discount...20% discount...30% discount.....and we usually make arrangments with riding apparel companies such as Fox....goggle companies Spy and Oakley...and helmet companies such as Arai. Chemical awards....etc..etc..etc
#3-We also offer a contingency program for racers of the SERA series which runs in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama.......If you purchased a machine from us within two years AND finished no worst than 3rd place...AND with our sticker displayed on the front end...we offer bonus bucks ranging from $50.00 to $300.00....it depends on the class you run and the position you earned......We paid out over $100,000.00 last year alone......and this year the figure will be even greater.
The guys you do not want are these:::::
A guy does well in the local MX series.
You offer him a %30 discount on all parts and accessories.
He orders from you regulary.
You notice he is running a new FMF Fatty pipe.
You ask where it came from.
He says "Chaparral...Because it was $10.00 cheaper even with my discount if I bought it from you."
Oh....I see...It's only what we can do for you and but not about what you can do for us. I see it so clearly now Ricky Carmichael.
Look out who you offer anything to......if you don't see any results on your end within 3 months....pull the plug.
Sponsors aren't there for giving away stuff for nothing in return.
Special made a great point about the use of banners with your logo. Tracks can always use these and will not say no to them regardless of the logo unless it conflicts with another sponsor of theirs that sells the same products as you do.
Good luck

Thanks everyone, I had no idea what it would take I was thinking about a t-shirt with my logo on it worn in between races Clean of course, maybe some entry/gas money. Have to re-think that now. Thanks knowsalot. I'm still game but I guess it will depend on the person.

Here is my angle, just so happens I'm looking for one for the winter series. But not trying to badger you smitty.
I ask for a small commitment. I let my potential sponsors know up front what I need from them and what my intentions are.
For my sponsor I set up a shade awning with thier name on it and try to put a display of thier product out. I also want, stickers for the bikes and quads, T-shirts for the hole crew, and materials on thier products.
Every race day we set up as big and colorfull as we can get. We talk mostly about racing but where we can incorperate sponsored products in conversations we will, but not to run any one off like a traveling sales men.
We have exposure to about 300 to 400 poeple per race week. But what companies don't realize we give them more exposure during practice sessions. We looked at practices and found they hold on average about 250 poeple at any given time. Where they revolve about 500 in and out all session, alot of good advertisements during practice. Poeple are also more at ease and willing to talk at practices as well.
Without running one lap I just showed you how to get out to about 2500 poeple a month with just a little comitment.
Getting sponsor ships from bike shops or dealers realy suck in my book. They are way to compettitive and demanding on me any way. I see getting advertisements out of industry much better and more graetfull for are efforts.
This is what I offer them without a lap. Now if we get up in the top 5 in points or even win a series that is just awsome for everyone. But as I said I let you know what I can do for you rite off the bat. Predicting series winners or the next graet MX stars, well we will leave that stuff up to the racing gods. Even the graet bill balance would have never guessed his hole trailer and quads would have been stolen at his first race.
