Don't like foam air filters. Was used to K&N but as with all the other things I can get used to it.Wonder if I could use the Outerwears pre filter that I had for my 400ex/K&N on 2003 LE.Tower City coal dust did a number on mine Sunday!!

it's been my understanding that a foam filter was far superior to paper in fine dust conditions.

Yeah, with the right oil on it, a foam will outperform a K&N in dusty conditions. Remove the filter and check the neck. You shouldn't have any dust in there. The filter is pretty open to the elements. I bought 2 extra filters, and now I always have a clean one. K&N filters have caused alot of rebuilds......chalk me up for one. I'll never run a K&N on a fourwheeler again....I even ran the outwear on it.

BTW, if someone really wants a K&N for a 400ex, you can dig it out of my back yard! I did my best impression of an NFL punter with it. :-)

i've heard that K&N filters aren't good for the dirt either.....well this may change my opinion of the power kits!

I use the twinair cleaning/oiling tubs with a spare filter.
No waste, it's great. I don't know how a spray on oil could be effective without using the whole can.

Yeah,If you tour Tower City you had better be ready to clean EVERYTHING!If you don't have black dust in eveything you have black mud in everything.I love it!!!I'm at campsite#928 look us up. So then do you soak these damn foam filters with this damn blue stickey stringy "stuff" then squeeze out the excess and let it set awhile?Seems to me it would choke the engine to a crawl...Well that's what it says on the label so we'll go for it.I have been cleaning my filters and then using some spray oil I had for foam filters but yo guys seem to noy like that stuff.give me some brands and I'll go shopping.....thanks MADINI

I've been using the Honda filter oil. It's been working pretty good. I soak the filter in a coffee can full of the filter cleaner, rub the big stuff off with my hands, then I use Dawn dish soap and water to clean it. The filter cleaner only breaks down the filter oil and traps the dirt. You still need to soap them. Then let the filter air dry. Don't use a hairdryer or put the filter on the furnace, you can melt the glue that holds the filter together. After it air drys, I put about a 1/4 cup of the Honda filter in a baggie. I put the filter in the baggie and work the oil into it. I shake off the excess, and put it in a new baggie and it's ready to go into the quad when it's time. I always re-use the baggies. The Twin air oil tub would do the same. This way you don't waste any filter oil. With spray, spray a good amount on the filter and use your hands to get it worked into the filter element. You just waste alot of the oil with the spray cans.

Make sure you put some oil around the end that seals against the quad! I can't find the white lithium grease anywhere, so I just use the filter oil.

Thanks,I'll try that method.Still seems hard to imagine air making it through that mess.I got white lith. grease at Lowes.in a small grease gun and also in a can you can dip it out of to grease around that lip in the back of the filter.

I use the coffee can method for both parts. i have a can for cleaner, and a can with filter oil. The nice part is I bought a 2nd air filter so I always have one ready. While one is drying you are riding with the other. I have yet to run into a problem with not being able to get it clean though. Like I said I usually clean it after every ride. My filters always look jet black when I am done too. That tower city dirt does do a number on the filter. I am heading up there tomorrow so I will be cleaning on monday. madini: I will have to catch up to you up there.
