New Dale owner and I've got a question
#1
Brought my Dale home last night and rode it around for about 1/2 hour with no problems. Got up this morning and rode it about 15 minutes according to the break-in recommendations and again there was no problem. Let the engine cool completely and jumped on it again to ride for another 15 minutes and it started off well. Going through mild whoops section (just small rolling mounds about 1 foot tall) and the motor just died like I hit the kill switch. I started it back up and continued riding but now I notice that if I'm in gear and pull the clutch in for a couple of seconds (as if I'm coming to a stop) the motor will die. I can start it in neutral and it will idle OK but if I put it in gear it will idle for a few seconds and then die. I checked the chain tension and it was within spec so does anybody have any suggestions? Also, my idle seems to be a bit lower than the Moto I rode. I tried turning up the idle a little with the **** underneath the throttle body but that didn't seem to change much. BTW, it's a 2003 LE Cannibal so I'm assuming all updates have been performed.
Any help would be appreciated.

The chain is within the 1.3-1.6" spec. It's not like it stalls as soon as I put it in gear. I can be rolling up to a stop in 1st and pull in the clutch and about 2 seconds after I pull the clutch in the bike dies. I just adjusted the clutch lever out to see if I can get a little more pull on the clutch (I'm now at the last click out, came from the factory at the 2nd to last click).

I'm thinking the clutch safety switch. It's an odd problem you have. You would think if it were the switch, it would be more instantaneous, but it's something to try. I'm not sure if it's a normally open or normally closed switch, so you may have to hook the wires together. Tinker with it and I'm sure you can figure it out. It's a thought.

I seemed to have fixed the problem! I noticed that the idle on my Cannibal didn't seem to be as high as the demo Moto I rode. I rode my 'Bull around and brought the engine up to operating temperature and had my brother hold the clutch in and shift down to 1st. With him doing that it freed up my hands to reach in and turn up the base idle speed while the quad was running. So for the last 15-20 minute ride you could stop and hold the clutch in and all was well.
Thanks for the help.

I guess I'll have to start a new account under "CannondaleGuy"

You probley need to adjust your clutch. If its hard to put in nutral with the motor running and it pulles some with
the clutch in and in gear,This will defantly make you stall under hard breaking and while idleing in gear.

mxmike, the quad never jumped or anything like that when I put it in gear. I adjusted the clutch out one click anyway (which happens to be the last click) and that didn't change anything. When you first start the engine cold and the fast idle circuit was on you could put it in gear and it would stay running but when the engine got warm the idle seemed to slow down too far and it couldn't stay lit when in gear. Like I said, I upped the idle with the thumbscrew underneath the throttle body and it seemed great on my last ride. I've talked to several Dale owners so far that said neutral is very hard to find on their Dale's as well. With the engine shut off it's very easy to find or when the quad is running and you're just rolling slowly you can get it pretty easy. But for the life of me (and a friend with an '02 Speed) it's nearly impossible to get it into neutral when you're just sitting there with the engine running.
