Default Coolant and Corrosion

All,

When you pull your motors to do the valves, you need to check the area of the vavle cover behind the water pump impeller. They have a problem with corrosion in that area. The problem is all of the alum, magnzium, and other disimilliar metals causing alot of electrolizes. (SP)

Cannondale is supposed to have new cover with a better coating to help prefent this.

Another good idea would be to change the Coolant every 6 months.

One other thing on this topic. Don't put well water in the engine do to the iron in it causes corrosion. My mechanic warned me of this. He said to use distilled water instead.

When they had the head off for the port work I mentioned it and did some digging. Mine some corrosion there, I didn't get a depth but will be soon.

Nope it is apart right now. It looks like sand got into it but can't find out where from. It didn't come though the filter that's for sure. Sand was in the Tranny filter and coolant bottle. The junt for the where it came from continues.

Distilled water is the only thing anyone should be putting in any cooling system.

When I pulled my motor out I noticed this problem also. Cannondale is replacing it but it sure does take a long time to get parts. I have been down for 4 weeks now just replacing the clutch! My cover looks like a sponge! I do plan on putting some JB Weld in there and smoothing it out to have it as a backup just in case......................in case of what I don't know.
