basically the same as all the other quads, just more often. The biggest difference is that the engine and tranny oil is separated. The owners manual says to change the oils and clean the filters every 10 hours.

"This is not your Daddy's shotgun cowboy". They do require a little more maintenance than the others. But don't be discouraged, the performance well exceeds the maintenance. Oil is easy to change, tranny oil is easy to change. Air filter easy to change.....it is well thought out machine for ease of maint.

P.S. Except for that damn rear engine filter, man I hate that thing.....LOL. I clean that one about every 40 hours and have never found anything in it.

Dub, for me it's that tranny filter! I'm going to need to grow one of my fingernails to 1 inch long to get the damn thing seated in the hole in the tranny case, and in the drain plug. What a pain - if they made it 1/4 inch longer, things would be so much easier!

MJ,

Here's an easy trick. Push it real hard onto your index finger just below your nail, so it actually sticks to it. Then just gently fish it around into the hole. It will drop right in. Hope this helps.

Be careful on the trans.drain plug, that thing is like putty. Other than that everything is simple.. Just performed more often.Well worth it.

Dub,

Yeah, I can get it into the hole in the case OK, it's getting it to go into the recess in the drain plug as I thread the plug in - that's the pain. Gravity makes the filter droop a little, so that when I screw the plug in, the end of the filter bottoms out on the flat of the plug rather than seating in the recessed area. I got it eventually, but it's a pain.

I love my cannondale and I could not imagine having anything else out there. It is just way above and beyond anything else that is offered. They are the most high-tech and cutting edge machine ever built. But, if maintenance is one of your biggest concerns then you may want to look at a 400ex. The cannondale is not for everybody, just people who like to ride in the front of the pack. You have to choose between a machine that is going to be a little less maintenance but a little less of everything else also or a cannondale that is faster, cutting edge, and more fun than anything else out there but a little more maintence. The little bit of extra maintenance is well worth the trade off for me!
