Kinda confused......(Drag Racing)
#1
Ok here are the conditions.............slight uphill, pavement, straight, flagger.
First I raced a Banshee with Toomeys, K&N, Boost Bottle, Reeds, & Reed Spacer.........I hung about 1/2 a quad length the whole time until the topend where he gained about 3 quad lengths (I expected a much larger difference, he IS def. a better rider than I am)
I then went on to race a Raptor with FMF Powercore IV Slip-on, consistantly beat him by around 1 or 2 lengths, he also is a better rider.
Now this is the confusing part a raced a Raptor with a Yoshimura Full System (Im the better rider on this one) anyhow, he got me off the start I then caught up and we were neck and neck, he then beat me by about 2 or 3 quad lengths in top gear.
Now my question is: Since when is a piped Raptor as fast as a Piped Banshee?
Also any suggestions for starts......this is just for play purposes, Im not getting into any serious drags.
I just found that kind of odd, because when the Yoshi Raptor and Piped Banshee raced the Banshee had about 4 quad lengths on the Raptor
Thanks.....I guess Im just kinda of venting, owell, theres always tomarrow.
PS. Im not even mentioning the Piped & Carbed 400EX that was there.....no competition whatsoever.

first drop from the stock 42 rear sprocket to a 38 or 40, that will help keep the front end down. we run a moto mx and my sone comes out of the gate in third gear. usually on a concrete starting pad we dont sweep the pad like everyone else. we leave a little loose dirt on it, the quad will spin a little and then hook and take off like a rocket. it also saves you time by not having to shift an extra gear. he has used this method for quite a while and has quite a holeshot record.

I know for sure that the Raptor is not a Big-Bore, infact I was the one that installed his pipe & jetted it..........maybe I just wasnt winding out my gears enough or something, I'm going to race him again sometime this weekend and tell u the results.
How is this for a good all around setup for XC, MX, Drag, and just play riding?
Exhaust (Probably HMF or Powertech-4)
The Moto/Speed combination map
40-tooth Rear Sprocket?
would this setup make my holeshot much worse?
Thanks

Kodiac01 I'm useing the Hmf and Moto Map in mine it works great for fast woods riding and some play drag races. I went with a larger front sproket, a 15. I tried a 14 front but the front end wanted to pull up too much (also I run outsu radials that measure about an inch smaller diameter then the holeshots) . I still havent gotten a new mother board for the laptop (e-bay seller still hasen't shipped it yet ) so I haven't tried the moto/speed map yet. But if it pulls like its supposed to it will be the setup for me.

Where are you guys getting the sprokets for the Dales? Armoks, that is the setup you use for agressive trail riding?

I used a 4-stroke KTM sprocket(I think it was for the 600). Just make sure it's a renthal super light or another that has holes drilled trough it because the one I have I used the factory lock washer for a spacer on the motor side of the sprocket and made my own for the outside that uses tabs that go into the holes and then folds down on the nut.
I've used this set up for aggressive trails and haven't had a problem yet. I still have plenty of power on the bottom end and when we hit the roads and fields it's not over revving at the higher speeds.
Edit-- The rear sprocket is the same as a Honda 400ex or 250r

we run a 13/40 on our moto and like i said come out of the gate in third like a rocket. on the speed or cannibal if you go yo 18" tires you need to go down to a 38 of 40 on the rear or it will wheelie on takeoff. whem we raced the cannibal we had the stock rear 42 and 18" turf tamers and couldnt keep the front end down on the starts. the hmf is a good system, we took the fmf off that came on the moto and installed a hmf and it seems to have more power everywhere. i have heard on the ktm front sprocket you ave to grind off some material on one side, dont know if it is true but that is what i have heard

A huge difference that may help explain the variation in Raptors comes on the intake side. See if the airbox lid is open or not and whether it is running a stock air filter or aftermarket. Has it been properly jetted? Many Raptor owners have slapped an exhaust on and done nothing on the intake side. From my experience, I can tell you it makes a huge difference. I've seen stock Raptors that are quicker than those with aftermarket improvements (the owners made the wrong changes or not enough changes).
Gearing and tire quality also make big differences (meaning lightweight 2 ply tires versus 4 or 6-ply tires)
