Default Puking oil revisited

Well I finally had a problem with my C'dale. It performed that nasty oil puking episode through the air filter like so many people have talked about in the past. It was really weird, it had been rode very hard previously with no problems so I know too much oil was not the problem, it's never been turned over so that was not the problem. I wasn't even riding the quad that hard when this occured. But it did puke alot of oil out, I was at the dunes so I just cleaned everything up, did not add any oil after this, and it ran find the rest of the day with no incident. Weird!!!! Has anyone ever heard of a exactly why this happens, I don't recall ever getting a clear answer to this problem.

It comes from to much crankcase pressure.Cannondale changed from a wiseco piston in the first motors to a cast piston and lowered the compression at same time thinking that blowby was the problem it helped some but the main problem was actually the inadequite breather system which is unlike any other system I have seen this was addressed with the crankcase breather kit. Also if the quad was rolled the chamber in the right frame member would fill with oil and the breather couldnt keep up so more oil would come out.So the trick is always warm up the quad before taking off and if it rolls pull the lower hose off right frame above swingarm bolt and let oil drain. Then you need to check the oil level if it is low add some if it is at or above after this happen then you have a internal problem like bolts loose on crankcase plate or scavenger pump cover or piston and rings are wore out.

Mine was blow-by the ring allowed the compression to just go around and it would have to much pressure in the crank case causing it to puke.

Hmmmm, at my last ice race, mine only had a bloody nose. Didn't throw-up, didn't burn blue smoke. When I left it in the garage after the races, I noticed oil on the floor. Traced it to the air cleaner. Squeezed out about an ounce of oil. I did over fill the crank case by about 2 ounces but it was in the high safe zone on the dip stick. Any idea's ??

If your quad still has the original motor it has the wiseco piston. You are lucky those motors never should have been replaced. The weather has a lot to do with the blowby.Wiseco pistons expand and contract at a higher rate than a cast piston in cold weather the cylinder will be warm and piston may cool faster than cylinder making blowby.I would just install breather update kit or make your own kit and even if it is only shut off for 10 min in cold weather let it warm up for a bit.I think the original motors were faster than 2nd gen motor 1st gen had wiseco domed piston, carillo I beam conrod.1st gen motor with new clutchplates and 1000 ecm would be faster than new ones.

fill you dip stick up to 1/4 way and that should keep it form puking again.

When did Cannondale make the change from the Wiseco piston to the cast?

If you need any trans gears or shafts, outer clutch baskets, starter gears, timing gears, balance shafts or ATV axles, email sales@hanovergear.com. They were the supplier for most of the gears used by Cannondale and have a good supply on the shelf.

They also have the clutch basket and main drive gear for the European market that had ground teeth. The teeth were finish gound to aircraft quality tolerances to help reduce engine noise. The ground gears were scheduled to ship to Cannondale late last year but never made it because of the cash issue so hardly anyone knows they even exist.
