CHECK YOUR VALVE COVERS!
#1
if you have a cannondale atv or dirtbike check your valve cover to see what color it is. if its black your ok but if it is the beige colored one take it off and look at the right side behind where the waterpump impeller goes. it seems that the magnesium cover has a chemical reaction to the coolant. it pits the metal really bad.the newer covers are powdercoated black to prevent this. if yours is not real bad you can powder coat it for a easy fix but if its real bad you will need a new one. i checked with cannondale and the valve cover is over $300.00. quadsource said they can powder coat it for $50.00

whats up. was hoping you would have come back to the races at holeshot that sunday. man it was a muddy mess. josh got an overall second. last week at kentwood first moto he pulled the holeshot and led for 3 laps then chris got around him so he got second. second moto he pulled the holeshot and led for a lap and a half and chris got him again another second so he got the overall second. ther were 18 quads at kentwood and you talk about an awesome track. nothing better in this area but the owner aint gonna let quads race there. he only did this time because he had to because it was a series. they are putting together a summer seies right now and are suppose to give details soon. they arent gong to race every week in this one though. we got the moto tore apart doing some much needed maintenance to it. the gas lines are getting soft so we are replacing all of them and a bunch of other stuff.we are going to go ride for the fun of in wiggins tuesday. a guy is loaning us a gps so we gonna see what the moto will do. let me know when you get that quad together and we will meet you someplace and practice together. i think our next race will be rockhill on march 14 and then on the 23rd bubba is going to race at flying colors in larose. later

Yeah, I figured it would be really messy, I wish I would have came back sunday
Hopefully the kentwood owner will come to his sense's, 18 quads is a very nice turnout!
Congrats on the good finshes!
I should have the quad done by march (depending on some other people Im getting really aggrivated with! )
What ya mean by "wiggins"?
Hopefully I'll be able to checkout rockhill on the 14th with ya
I should have the 300ex fixed by this weekend (rear-end bearings and seals went out) so I can start getting back in shape.
I'll definatley let ya know when the quad is done, Im goin crazy! Its been 8 months now since I rode a real quad! But I guess it'll all be worth it

If the area that covers the spark plug is Gray you will need to fix it. When my quad was apart this was changed as it had major corrosion behind the water pump area. Also changing the fluid will keep this form happening as fast.

Do you mean just change the fluids every once in a while or do you mean use a different kind of fluid?

I just replaced my cover with the black one. My old (cream colored) cover was pitted very bad.
The fix, so I am told, is to change coolant often and be sure to use distilled water.
My Fix, $289.00 for a new cover.

Hey Dubya, in that pic, the valve cover is removed right? So what is that component that's pitted and does that need to be replaced?
How much time are you guys seeing on your quads before this is an issue?

I can powdercoat them. Guessing $25 each. I will be doing mine this weekend. I will let you know how much of a hassle it is going to be. The only problem I foresee is making sure it is oil free.
