Default 2-strokes banned forever?

Is it true that 2-stroke motors will become illegal to use in the near future?

I don't think they will Ban them. But the word on the street is they are going to discontinue making 2-strokes in 2006. If they ban 2 stroke four wheelers, they are going to have to ban 2 stroke snowmobiles, lawn mowers, generators, etc...

Ugh. Search the site. Find the answers. This topic has started many flame wars (of which I've been part of).

The simple two stroke as you know it (as in what's in quads, motorcycles, lawnmowers and other power equipment) won't be sold as new. It will be more technologically advanced and cleaner.

From what I have heard that they will stop making them in 2006 and by 2008 they are going to stop selling ORV tags for them. So you can still race but not ride in the orv parks.

BUT THATS JUST WHAT I HEARD.

I was thinking about one aspect of 2 stroke pollution issues: the lube oil.

here's an idea, out of my diseased skull: an oil jacket. Use existing designs for water jackets in water cooled bikes. Extend the crankshaft into the water jacket, but use a low viscosity cooling oil instead of water.... lube and cool all in one. Just reinfoce the region of the shaft, and use oil channels to keep the flow in the right places. This allows it to be one-cast like existing designs, with minimal retooling.
