I am a landowner adjoining this proposed facility. I, along with several neighbors (all directly impacted by the park) are in opposition to this facility as it has been proposed to us by the Parks Department. We truly believe we can work with the actual users of this facility and make this work. We would like to meet (or at least speak to you) in an effort to find common ground before things progress to some type of legal action.

If it can get screwed up the City will screw it up. None of us want to spend the time and money required to tie this up in the courts for years. I know there is a meeting this Saturday at the Park, maybe we could get together. Thanks

 

i hope you dont think i'm rude by asking this because my ? is sincere. What kind of concerns do you have about this facility going into place? and what do you mean by "work with the actual users of this facility and make this work"? who are the "actual users" and what would "make it work"? i think it would be good to hear some thoughts from you so that those things can be best addressed.

My personal concern is the noise from the trails that are proposed for directly behind my house. The overall plan for the park sounds like a good one. When we built our house the Aviation Department suggested that we move it back into the woods for sound deadening reasons. The Aviation Department has now agreed to allow trails on their land and one of the proposed trails is right behind my house.

Actual users of the park would be people who are going to be there riding at the facility. So far the City people that I have talked to know about as much about riding as I do. The are also making it sound like a very adversarial position on the side of the facility supporters. I would much rather work with people who don't talk out of both sides of their mouth. It seems to me that this facility would be a lot more likely to happen if the people who adjoin the park are on board.

I don't claim to know a damn thing about ORV's or motocross or snowmobiles. I have my own self interests in mind, just as you guys do. I just thought it might be a change for the better for us to work together to get a facility. In my opinion, making this facility a model facility would help you guys get more of the same type of facilities. Thanks

 

i'll be giving this all some good thought, and i'm sure some of the other people on here will get in here soon and start sharing as well... but i just had a quick thought about the sound... perhaps a few extra evergreen trees between your house and the area could take the edge off the noise of any riding close by? if you dont mind my asking, which side of the area are you on? i might take a look at the aerial photos and see how the area and trails might sit compared to you, then i might be able to give more informed thoughts.. if you dont want to say thats okay too.. some people like there privacy. out of curiousity, have you ever been on an atv?

 

We are 1 mile East of the park. We back up to the airport property. The activity in the park doesn't effect us. We can hear it doesn't bother us or anything. Hell, we live next to the airport and own a very loud motorcycle, so we can take noise. We are in very dense timber already but I would definatly consider evergreens.

I am from Southern Missouri, so yep, I have been on an ATV - a three wheeler, which I was pitched off backwards when it flipped over on itself, due to driver error! That was years ago.
