No Legal Trails in CT
#1
I'm speachless when it comes to this. There are absolutely NO legal riding areas in Connecticut. Now why sell ATVs here if you are not allowed to ride them anywhere?? If the police catch you, your ATV is gone.
Good thing I bought a quiet quad, huh??
Who thinks this is absurd??
The other thing is, everyone says our ATVs destroy the wilderness. Yeah are tires kick up the dirt some what. It isn't like it's your garden or your lawn for gosh sakes. Especially when bulldozers are mowing down thousands of acres of land to build massive houses that almost no one needs. So why should we take the blame when others are destroying more land than needed?? I can honestly say, this is redunkulous!! Who else thinks this is redunkulous (rediculous)??

I figure that's because CT is loaded with rich, tree-huggers Too small of a state. Pack your sh$t and move to a more atv friendly state. Pa seems pretty cool since 1 in 30 people own one, WV, or out west. Ohio (where I live) has some good places too, plus I have my property, and the use of the neighbors.

Oh boy how I WISH I could move!! I can't right now though. And there is actually a lot of land here (yes we trespass on it). The reason we can't ride there is because people have to walk their dumb dogs on the trails that WE made. Yes the scenery is nicer than walking your dog on the road but can't we just pass by you on the trail and give eachother a friendly hello? Instead of you walkers calling the police and having them come to deal with it (its not like they would be able to catch me!!!) You see, on these trails, us ATVers have our seceret exits to make a quick escape!! lol

Here in mass. there are a few legal trails to ride on but they are few and far between. However in my area everyone rides in the woods on private property and you almost never have a problem. I think there is a gray area in the laws too. In order to keep people off your land you have to post your property line every 50 feet. No sighns and I go. Legal place to ride? No. Illegal place to ride? I dont think so. As far as the sport goes everyone does like to poo on us. But when we make a mess in the woods and dig everything up on others land we are playing with toys. I am a builder and when we bring a 60,000 lb hoe and clear a tract of land for development we stay on the property and build homes, not make a mess and leave. I personally hate to see new homes go up everywhere but it pays my bills.

they tried passing a bill..it 'died' recently...you can try to get involved to try and change things, but it can get discouraging.

The two links above discuss the bill that died just a little bit ago...if you want read them or not. I'm from MA and we used to have 35 State forests to ride in..now we have 3..

I actually drive to Plymouth, Mass. quite a bit to go and see relatives who also want ATVs but with 3 kids, it can be hard to afford a few ATVs. And I know what you mean by "it pays my bills." Sadly, I don't think there is much room in Plymouth to ride. And that's what we do here, if we don't see a huge sign saying NO ATVS, we ride freely...at least until we see somebody, then we scramble!! lol

bigdifficultme, I didn't mean you destroy the land. I was trying to say people buy too much land and they don't need all of it. I know it's your job to clear the lot so I have nothing against you and with the prices of everything rising, like you said, you have to do your work to get payed!!

SuziOzark, I understand what point you were trying to make, and I was throwing a different point of view out there thats all. Trust me I understand your frustration. I only get to clear a lot about once a yr. Iam a foreman of a high end remodel crew. So new construction is few and far between for me. But pushing down huge trees with a hoe is a blast, almost as fun as hitting the trails. As far as a place to ride goes in Ct. look at some topo maps and find some unmantained roads. They usually wind up as trails because of the lack of use, and no private citizen can kick you off of them. But they are still roads.
