I was thinking about buying a Garmin etrex. Does anyone own one that can comment on it? Is it worth buying? Or is there another one that would be better. I'm looking at this one because of the price.

What's that all about???!

I like that one too, mostly because it's waterproof & very small. It also has great battery life.I've never had one, so I dont know what features are important.

Looks like someone got confused about an ETon and an Etrex. I've heard, not expereinced first handed that they are worth the money.

And should be especially now that error difusion is removed.

Has anyone looked into the EMap? I have been looking at this one. I spend a lot of time on the lake in the summer so the GPS III Plus looks good too with sunset and sunrise times. That would help keep the waterpatrol from getting me wakeboarding after sunset

Boy after looking at the ETrex user manual, I may just forego the mapping and go with this unit, looks like it will do everything I want....

Got the E-Map last X-mas after using a GPS-12 for the last 4 years. Highly recommend it. My biggest concern was ability to download and read maps on the lcd display. Good maps are available from Mapsource and the display is very readable. While some features are missing, compared to the GPS-12, everything I need is there and works great. Get the package with the cable and 8 mb memory if you want more than the street base map it comes with. Figure another $150 for the Mapsource topo CD.
