Default Rebuilding Engine

I have a 1976 Kawasaki KE enduro 175cc. I know it isn't a Quad, but i figured you guys could help me. . It still runs but tends to over heat after about minutes, would it help if i got new rings? It also only likes to start when it wants to. The bottom cylinder has 4 very, very slight groves at the bottom by the gas intake opening. They only go up to about 4 mm from bottom of the piston stroke would be so I dont think they effect though.
