I'm a ford guy but that is me. To haul your quad you will need too consider the other things that go with it like gas jugs, air tank, tool box, ice chest, gear bag, and maybe extra tires and wheels. That means you need long wheel base if you put large pickup tool box across bed, I have one in m 94 F150 long bed and my ltf500 suzuki has to ride tailgate down.
P.S. I HATE SHORTBED TRUCKS!!!

Just watch the type of bed. A friend has a Ranger, and it would work fine except that he got the flareside (didn't have his atv at the time), and he has to leave the rear wheels on the tailgate. If he had a styleside, he would be okay.

Anything your quad will fit into - that will get you to the riding area & back

I am not sure about the Chevy Avalanche because I haven't seen a quad in the back of one yet. If you would have a quad in the back of the Avalanche and it would start to rain where does the water go?
I would get a full size bed if you want no room problems or get a full size 2500 series van and just drive the quad in and have all your tools and supplies enclosed.
