I like PJ1 filter cleaner and then flush with lots of water. It isn't such a good idea to use gas, because it dissolves the filter oil, but tends to leave the dirt behind. It takes a lot of flushing to get the dirt out, something you aren't as likely to do with gas as you are with water. Some people just use dish detergent.

I always use dishwashing detergent any more. Years back I found that the foam filter cleaners available did no better than dishwashing detergent. Today I stopped by the local shop too pick up some PJ1 filter oil and almost picked up the cleaner as well.....but told myself "self, you have been there and done that, keep your money and use some dishwashing detergent from home". The problem is I can clean my foam filter very diligently and it still is not completely clean being dirty in appearance.....I know this is not good for air flow. Will the new cleaners give me what I am looking for?

I have used PJ1 since 1997. I liked it so well I purchased the company well maybe I didn't go that far but I did purchase a whole case. Your filter will be clean and right at first I might have wasted too much cleaner and after many years I have learned the correct amount to spray on. I use it to clean the tractor precleaners also.

I also use the (super tacky) PJ1 spray in the red can after the filters dries and I use that now on everything too.

PJ1 deodorizing spray(pink can with the turd on it) works great too on the outhouse filter to keep those nasty smells at bay

Hey Chet, does the cleaner bring the filter back too new condition? How dirty was the filter beforehand...? The filter oil is awesome....I don't see anything getting by that stuff. Speaking of oil....do you still use the Sidewinder lube? I have thought about it but can't convince myself...

Gary,

It does for me but I have used PJ1 from the get go and the filters are dirty from the dusty roads and trails we have around here in the summer.

I don't ride my TRX300 4x4 much except for the bushhogging so it had been almost a year since its last clean and when it was finnally dried out it looked good as new.
