I just got a new K&N air filter. Are you suppose to oil it or anything like that before you install it??

If so what type of oil do you use and how do you do it?

What will happen if you don't oil it?

OK, this question has been asked a bunch of times. I can't find it right off hand, but a package insert that came with my filters said to DOUBLE OIL filters for off-road use. The filter is oiled at the factory, so you need to oil it once again before installing.

After cleaning my filters, I oil them once and let them sit overnight. Then I oil them again and let them sit at least an hour before installing. If you don't oil a dry filter, kiss your engine goodby!

Use only K&N's filter oil!! And, always run an Outerwears!!

 

Hmm.. Well I got the K&N out of the box and slapped it in. No oil and I've been riding for a couple days.

How often should you clean and re-oil an air filter? And what would happen to the engine if you don't oil it? You said they are oiled at the factory so could this still be hurting my ATV by not oiling it??
