pop up blockers will stop the pop ups but also interfere with scripts and java and many other web based processes.

Try holding down the Ctrl key when you want to open a pop up window. Thats what works on my computer.

Google has a add on tool bar for your browser, it has a free pop up blocker and a autofill
button, google search area. best of all its easy to use, you turn on the add blocker, and
on the pages you want popups you click the block button and it will always allow pop ups
from that page only.. I have it on all my pc's... make sure you read it durring installation,
because, if you install it one way it will keep track of what sites you go to with page ranks
and report them to google, but you can install it without the reporting...

Google tool bar
