Earlier this year, my dad and I tore down our old shed which was basically an old(old old) flimsy sheetmetal building. It went down and we built our own shed in place of it. Here is the problem, when we did the roof, we mounted the 2x4s vertically on top of it and then mounted the roof on top of the 2x4s. I guess this is common cuz I see it in alot of builds done by do-it-yourselfers. Having done it that way, we left gaps in between the roof and building about 1ftx4in. We have been discussing an easy way to seal it. But there really isnt. It doesnt have to be air tight, but I want it to retain some heat when we are down there working this winter. My suggestions was just to take some Luan(or whatever you call that thin plywood) and cut it and nail it in place and put a sealer around it till summer rolls around and we can properly insulate it.
Any suggestions? The luan seems to be the cheapest and easiest way right now.

 

I don't see anything wrong in what you are describing. Silicone works wonders for sealing and can be pealed off pretty easy come next spring.

 

Not sure if it would work in your situation, but I have found that expandable foam works great for sealing/weatherproofing. Maybe if you used the luan then spray it? Just a suggestion...

 

Why not just use the pink insulation? You can use it between the "rafters" of the whole roof....I'm assuming you have eaves (overhanging edges)....the insulation will help keep it warm in winter and cooler in summer.....and it should still allow for some ventilation and circulation.

We have used alot of that insulation in a can, that expandable stuff. Great Stuff I believe is the name of it. Its sealed alot, but it wont do it alone for the roof. I think with that stuff and that luan, it should suffice for winter.

that expandable stuff works great on small cracks, 1 to 2 inches but will just run down the wall on a big opening. you have to watch how much you use too. i had an old 86 ford pickup several years ago and decided to use some of that in between the towo layers of metal on the roof. i pulled the cab lights and sprayed some in each hole then sprayed some in from behind the seat, was trying to deading the road noise. the next morning my cab lights had popped out and i had about six busted spot welds from that stuff expanding and having no place to go! so if you use it around wood make sure it has room to expand because it does Expand! a LOT!

 

LOL! Yeah, I think we've both figured that one out the hard way!!! I guess I should have taken the instructions seriously!!!

 

Yah...I'd say the expanding spray foam would work the best...just make sure you don't like any clothes you have on while you mess with the stuff
