Sled hp vs. ATV hp
#11
Talk about a crazy comparison. Snowmachine needs to turn a TRACK 16-18" wide, and over a hundred inches long, in COLD weather (rubber is stiff when cold) at REALLY high speeds to pull it through waste deep powder. Also, it's doing this with pump gas.
2005 698cc Sabrecat, dry weight 512 lbs, 140 hp!!!
But have you ever WALKED through deep powder? It takes a lot of energy to move through. And can you imagine climbing some of the hills that these sleds climb? In snow?? Have you ever picked up the track off of a snowmachine? I mean, just the track, off the machine... HEAVY. Especially with ice cleats.
Ever tried to push a snowmachine?? Super high rolling resistance, even on hardpack. It just takes a lot more juice to push a machine through the snow.
I can't even imagine having a quad with 100hp. Let alone 140hp! That would be freaking insane. What good would it be in the woods?? You would be breaking axles, exploding transmissions, etc... On a Toyota Pickup (pre '86) with a stock front Birfield axle, you CAN'T weld the front diff or have a front locker w/o breaking Birfields occasionally. I wheel with a lot of Toys, and if you turn all the way right or left, go in reverse, and your front diff is welded, you have to be careful. And a stock Toy, 22r, only has about 110hp.
Wouldn't that suck if your quad had to weigh 900 lbs to handle the power of the engine? Some of you will answer, 'NO!', but I'm happy with having reletively light weight running rear that is pretty bullet proof.
Comparison of Quad to Snowmachine is pretty far out there, if you weigh their differences, and the jobs they have to do.

I guess I would have to see a quad that would put a beat down on a drag sled. A good running pro stock would run in the low 4 sec and that's in 660 feet not 300 feet.

the only time i feel like i need more horsepower (like double or triple) is when Im in the sand,,,,where it eats all the HP,,,or in the snow.
a 135 hp triple sounds fun though,,,,,in the sand

i was just checking out some pictures of a ski-doo rev with 2 wheels in the front and 2 in the back,it looked pretty cool doing a wheelie down the road..id really like to see a yfz put a hurting on a new snowmobile.i dont see it happening, maybe the smaller sleds but anything over a 600 will get to 100mph before the yfz is doing 50..

It's too bad sand would eat the hifax alive, otherwise, a snowmachine would be bad a$$ on the dunes!! Someone should come out with a little bogey-wheel replacement hifax for riding at the dunes. With uhmw skies, you'd think that a snowmachine would be the ultimate dune climber!
