Actually .. the gearing change required to get the beast up to that speed is not that drastic ... 16/38 gearing with the same other stuff that comes with stock (20" tires etc) will pull a calculated 99.62mph with the engine revving at 7500RPM.

So in theory, if you had no friction or wind resistance or any other coefficient of drag at all, the raptor could do 95mph. But in the real world such a situation doesn't exist .... if such a world existed, with the proper gearing, even a warrior could hit those speeds

Gearing or no gearing the raptor does not have enough stock power to pull that kinda speed.

The only thing left to do with a DW magazine is look at the pics. (Really it's the same with ATV Action.) These magazines have been out for a long time. Why can't they get this info correct?

Two latest things to bug me in DW.-
June 2004 issue. Pg. 33- Top left someone has sent in a picture of their Rancher 350. It's a Foreman 450. Why wouldn't the writer know this. Are the pictures staged? Why didn't the DW writer correct them?

July 2004 issue. Pg. 29- Middle left of page. The person sent a picture of two Honda 350's and they were just atv certified. The picture is of two Foreman 400's. Huh? People don't know what they are riding? Why doesn't a magazine that has been out for so long know the difference in models?

Maybe DW should hire people that have an interest in atv's instead of "writers".

I'm sure the Raptor can hit 95 mph with the required gearing and extra power. Extra power being a pipe, cams, etc. I'm not saying it would be blazing on take off, it would probably take a 2 miles or so to get up to speed on a paved surface.

Coyotechaser:

Its not polite to correct people in a public magazine when all they are doing it showing something they are proud of. If only one person had written in saying their 350 Rancher is great but it turned out to be a 450 Foreman than they might do it, jokingly. But if two or more people wrote in then its not a good thing to correct them. Its just rude, makes them feel bad. My do that?

People rag on Dirt Wheels and ATV Action, what are you going to do? They have a limited staff probably, working hard, trying to save money like everyone these days and corners are being cut. They are not a premier magazine so they can have mistakes in their issues. They may not be dedicated quad nuts like us on these forums but atleast they produce a magazine for people to read. Kids read it and want a quad when they are older, dirt wheels is help keeping the sport alive.

It kinda sounds like you either work for or know someone that works for one of these magazines. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. It'll be ok.

But they do make a lot of mistakes. People buy these magazines to get accurate facts about specific models before buying a quad. Some of their stuff is misleading and other stuff is plain wrong. Sometimes they'll use old pictures from previous issues. Sometimes they'll use older specs from other issues. Even though something has been changed for the current model year they are writing about.

These magazines have been around for almost 20 years. When are they going to get their act together? June issue of DW, they have the Eigers top speed at 62 mph and the Rancher AT at 57 mph. Does anyone on this site own a Rancher AT that will go 57 mph?

Maybe these machines are running on Chet's special racing oil?

As far as being rude, I have read a lot of rude comments directed towards people sending pics in. I just don't think they take the time to even notice that something is wrong or they don't know any better.

What are you talking about? My Kodiak has done 100 mph! that was in my truck though. but still, if i changed the gearing i might be able to get ay least 90 mph. Then I could build wings for it and a put on a jet fighter canopy, and then maybe some super dooper turbo rockets, and then just maybe i could blast back into time too where gas prices were real cheap, and then, and then, and then.........

Canadians like to be sarcastic..... can't you tell?

Only way a raptor would do 95 mph is if it was set up for drag racing on asphalt with "just a few" mods....

KO- I wish I would win a Kodiak. What kind of contest were you in?

The only thing I've ever won was a bottle of wine at a bar. I put it down to go to the bathroom and a woman in our group drank it on me.
