1/4 acre lots if they are lucky......it is terrible
Here, the new homes sit on lots that give you 3 feet between your house and the fence line and if your are lucky, a backyard that is 15 feet deep Builders figure the bay area people really only sleep in their homes. They spend 2-3 hours each way to work, so, less property means less maintenance for the home owner and more homes per acre which means more profit for the builders. Around here, if you own a 1/4 acre, your lucky.

That's pretty much what you do. If your neighbor has a 2 story, forget about the parties in the spa too

This is a bad topic for me. We get a lot of people from N.J. & N.Y. areas. They buy up the houses around here because they are cheaper then back in N.Y.J.. Then they commute to their jobs. The problem is that houses are going up everywhere and it drives the prices of homes up for people that live and work in this area.
I've seen no less than 7 houses taken because of taxes within the last year. This was on one stretch of road about 6 miles long. There's probably more houses that I don't know about. The working poor are struggling. -- Maybe if gas prices keep going up then people won't commute so far to work.

Coyote, I hear you. That is exactly what we are facing. People working in the bay area can no longer afford housing there, but make great money. So, they move here and drive the prices up. I agree, I hope gas prices force them to sell and rent back in the bay area. But, I highly doubt it. We were looking at a house, base price $375k after upgrades $450k. The lot they wanted to put it on was a large lot, that had an extra $50k premium. We told them to shove it. A bay area transplant, came in and payed cash. Agent told us, he sold his bay area home for $850K and bought this one. The bay area guy is still ahead $400K.

Deanz, I hear you, The wife and I make a pretty good penny But,when I saw what we were going to pay for the house we wanted. We were giving up to much of our "get up and go" life style. The people that buy these work in the bay are for the money and commute. I just can't stand sitting in traffic for 2-3 hours each way. A lot of them come here to buy their house because they get more house for their money. Just like that guy. I am sure the house he bought here is in a lot better condition then the house he sold. It's crazy. I know when my sister lived in Sunnyvale, they were paying over $2,000 a month for rent on a 2/1 duplex.

I try to stay away from the bay area if I can. Have you been to the mx track at the foot of the Altamont in Livermore? I've only driven by it, but it looks packed on weekends. Don't know if quads can ride there though.
