If you do not turn your valve off that fuel can sit in the floater of the carb. and it will become crusty. With all the perservatives and such in fuels they can leave nasty grunge in your carb. You will have to use carb. cleaner to remove it. This would cause you to remove the carb. when all that you needed to do was turn it to the off or res. position (I have Z400, no off). If sitting for an extended period of time you should drain the fuel in the carb. for the exact reason as stated above. I have also heard that it can cause your carb. to not run correctly when you have "old" fuel sitting in there. True supposedly with all carbs. Just my $.02.

If it's just parked in the garage til the next time I ride it, I will leave it on. I turn it off if I'm transporting or it is going to sit for a long time. I also add Stabil if it's going to sit

I went from first place to last place in a heat race last winter because someone had left the gas off. Now if anyone so much as thinks about touching it, I let them have it. It only gets turned off when I remove the tank from the bike.

i wouldnt let it drain out of the carb because then the seals will dry out. i always have mine on unless i take the tank off btu then i alway forget to put it back on so i dont see any reason to turn it off
