Well I never got a brand new winch because they were out of my price range.

My friend has a T-1500 or it could be an ATV2000 winch(not sure), I want to buy it from him, it has all the wires and it's got a mounting plate with it too(no fairlead)...it can fit on my atv(I'm sure of that),it's around 5 years old, he used it on his Honda 125 but never uses it now because he never drives in water and mud like me.

What should I offer him for it with everything included???(I think $200 would be enough)

To me that sound like alot. Start out lower. Offer $125 and go up until he gives in.
Keep in mind that it is 5 years old or so. And how much has it been used? I know you said he does not use it any more. But what about back then? It depends how good a shape it is in I guess.

Well I'd say no more than $200.
And he says it works and runs fine, he never jerked it while pulling, so that's good news.
I was going to start around $150 and go from there.

Greetings,

Start by asking how little he'll take for it. That way, you get him to start bidding against himself.

Once you hit rock bottom, expand the scope of the negotiation. Ask him to throw in x ,y, and z or maybe help with the install.

And don't be in a hurry. He needs to sell it, you don't need to buy it -- and there's plenty of other places to get a winch.

Spend a moment on the web with Herb Cohen -- this guy negotiates the price of a refrigerator at Sears.

Thanks DrRod for the reply.
I'll start by asking him how low of a price will he sell it to me.

Why would I want him to help me?? I'm big enough to lift it and bolt it on...LOL

I don't see why I would want to buy a new one, a used one would be better(it's still in good shape)

How could a used 1500Lb superwinch be better than a Factory reconditioned 2500Lb winch with a warranty? The Ramsey winch also has 50 ft of cable and a hook, so it's not like you're getting just a winch and nothing else. Even with the exchange rate of CDN vs US it should be but about $150 CDN. I think shipping is also free if it's over $50.

Ah ha, I did not even look to see he was from Canada. $200 sounds about right then. (Although I am not an expert with exchange rates.)

Ya your right it is a good deal.
I don't want to wait for the thing to be delivered, my parents probably won't want me to send money to the states for something I can get here for a close price.
Ohh I'll wait and see what my my parents say.
They'll get mad if I do this and not tell them.

I'll just get my friends winch...it will do fine.

Another thing I wanted to ask- When the cable winds back in on it's own how does it know to stop when it's about to pull in the hook???
I always wondered about that.
