STREET LEGAL ATV's Where YOU live?

Ontario just passed a law allowing each township or county to have a vote and decide for themselves. Surprisingly, not many have done it but many are discussing it. There are already so many machines out there (I live in Eastern Ontario north of Syracuse) you'd think it would be a no-brianer, but apparently many people want to think carefullly about the consequences of lots of young riders (age 16 and up) bombing around the streets and highways.

I talked to a man in Indiana who went to the BMV and requested a title change to change the description of his CanAm 800 to a truck. He then put on street tires, mirrors, turn signals, windshield, etc. He had it inspected by a county police officer and bought a truck plate for it. He told me he could have regersted it as a car or mototcycle also. He rides it everywhere--even down the interstate at 70 mph (7200 rpm). He has been stopped 13 times by cops, but after he shows them his paperwork they let him go. I saw the ATV and it looks great with aluminum wheels and BFG All Terrains.

First you'll need this (http://littlefootconversions.com/Kit/kit.htm) lights, horns, real tires, and turn signals(/a)</end quote></div>
So, you're selling this stuff? The link doesn't work.
In AZ only mirror, DL, and Insurance on quad but no roads over 45MPH. And u not supposed to go from ditch to road. here in Buckeye the cops suck. They know I'm good to go but still get stopped every time one sees me. Imean like all the cops in town have stopped me twice. harrasment is what i say. they mad they cant do same is all
In Arizona you don't need to change tires, and you don't need turn signals. Out of 3 quads in the family I have street plates on 2 of them.

I ride them to the store for minor errands and up to the pumps to refuel. From my place the neighborhood C-store is almost 6 miles by car but only 2 miles by ATV.</end quote></div>

I live in Iowa and delivered a petition with about 200 signatures to our local state representitive. He was interested in allowing ATV's on the street but with the DNR and Iowa OHV organization (who claim to represent all ATVer's in Iowa) opposing it he did not feel we had enough support to act. He did tell me that 23 other state reps were also interested as well.
Iowa OHV succesfully overturned a law that had passed allowing ATV's in the road ditchs about three years ago. Iowa OHV is for riding parks only absolutely no on- roada and claims ATV's are too unstable to ridden on "improved" surfaces. I guess they(Iowa OHV) do not ride in the parks since they are stay on the trail only improved riding areas.
In Iowa the local county and towns/cities can allow if ATV's on roads, very tough to even get up a discussion with locals.
South Dakota allows ATV's anywhere but the interstate highways.

South Carolina Review . . . .
I live on the outskirts of Columbia, SC and I currently have a Eton 150cc ATV which I ride on the side of the road with my son and myself on it and I have gone as far as to wave to a passing by state trooper with nothing more then a wave back to me. And yes, my son was wearing a helmet.
Seeing how it is almost 'acceptable' here, I am not sure I would venture into trying to make it legal, I have not had a problem once since I have owned it!
And as a note, the SC DMV is lenient when it comes to titling issues. I currently have a Formula Vee race car titled and street legal. I inquired to DMV as to what I needed to do to get it titled and be legal, and I was told the same lights, horn, signals, belt thing everyone else is told.
So....I added a battery, headlights, signals, and a horn and applied for the title. I was sent a letter that said here is your new VIN #, you need to permanently attach it to the frame of the vehicle and then call a state trooper to inspect ONLY the VIN # to see if it is correct. I had a brass tag made and engraved and I riveted it to the frame, called and had the inspection done.
No safety inspection was made what so ever, all he did was read off the VIN and made sure it matched.
Back to ATV titling, I am fairly certain that one could be titled in SC if it had the required items, maybe one day I will try it with a bigger ATV.

Yeah man, Ontario rocks!!! I ride my bike everywhere with a $45 off road plate. No mods to make it street legal. No testing for licences or any other red tape... just out of the box and on the road.
