i just reinstalled Windows Xp, lost all my files =( and i cant find my taskbar and my start menu. how do i get it to show up?? please help ASAP!!

Click on your my computer icon, then at the top left of the window it says system tasks, under sytem tasks there is an option, change a setting, click on that, it should bring you to the control panel window. In the control panel window there's a bunch of icons, find the task bar and startmenu icon, click on that. That will bring you to the options for the task bar and start menu. Check the boxes nessesary to show the task bar etc. Hope that helps.

i have gotten that far already, i try clicking on it and it doesnt open up...=(

LOL, once you click on the my computer icon, under the heading other places you can get to the control panel there by clicking on control panel. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif[/img]

You most likely didn't lose any files but since you have no task bar etc it's kinda hard to find them. You should be able to go to your C drive at the my computer icon and see all your files are still there.

yes, and i lost all my files, i checked my docs, and the C drive

Hmm, that's very strange. Sorry I can't help you out. I'm no computer wiz, took me a sec to figure out how to do what I suggested but you already did all that. Could try and reinstall windows again but you still may not get your lost files back, maybe you could just restore your old operating system did you keep that option during the windows install?

You restored back to the way it was before you installed windows XP? Your files are still gone and you still don't see your task bar etc? Damn, you need some computer wizzes on this one. Try pming Blackhawk, I believe he does this kinda stuff for a living. Good luck.

If you just reinstalled windows XP or reformatted, all your old files will be gone thats why its a good idea to have everything backed up on another drive.

If you have the windows key then press it and then the letter S to get to the settings menu and then the letter C for control panel. Then you should be able to get to taskbar and start menu icon.

The windows key will work after it pops your start area up, the then go to control panel, then appearance and themes, and down at the bottom will be the taskbar and start menu.

I have an emachine also and when I went to reinstall it took 3 times with the disks that came with it. Needless to say I installed XP Pro and haven't had a problem since.
Give reinstalling another try or 2.
