what operating system are you using....please dont say ME because if you are, I would recomend getting rid of it and going either up to xp or down to 98, I find that xp has been really stable, and 98 is a good system too, or you could just put a multi boot on and have both on there! lol...

when is the last time your computer got reformatted? if it was any more then a year ago, it is always a good chioce just to go and do a reformat....I say this because XP slows down alot after a year's worth of use. I normally try to do a reformat every year -year and a half at the most

If you know the exact file the virus is in then you can delete it.....You will have to go to run and go int msconfig...there you need to boot up your computer in safe mode...once in safe mode you can delete the file (be carefull about the file you delete.....delete an important file and your screwed) then after deleting that file go back into msconfig and reboot in normal mode.....like I said be careful what the file is your deleting...some files are needed for your computer to run properly....

Ah this is ameaty subject the old dragginbutt can get his teeth into ....
First off, as some have suggested, get a working anti virus program going... but understand that this is only part of the fix. Next, once you get your computer back up and running and clean, go to MS site and download and install ALL the security patches. Yeah yeah, I know, it takes forever and several re-boots... DO IT! 90 percent of all hacks are caused by people refusing to patch their systems... and using factory settings... WRONG THING TO DO....
Do you know how you were infected? In many cases, all you have to do is browse to a given bad site, and you are now infected.
Also, in your email program, turn off preview... as it opens the mail automatically.. again, if you have a bad message, you are already infected.
If you get email form someone you don't know... delete it. Don't even open it.
Also, consider getting a firewall up, and spyware blockers that allow you to browse anonymously... they slow you down, but save you some grief.

I've also found that a virus will reside in the System Restore. So to get rid of it, I've set the space that SR uses down to zero, then turned off System Restore and restarted. Then it's been gone and I turn System Restore back on. Might be worth a try.

GO to START----PROGRAMS----ACCESORIES----SYSTEM TOOLS------SYSTEM RESTORE
from her you can go back to the date before you got the virus and reload your system....
keep in mind any things downloaded and or created in files(ie word docs...pictures) will not be there...
quick and easy...

If your anti-virus software can't delete it, it is probably active. To clean it, restart your pc in safe mode. To do this, reboot your pc and keep pressing the F8 key as it is booting. Select Safe Mode, and when it is up, start a virus scan. When the anti-virus finds it, it should give you the option of deleting it. This is the easiest way to get rid of it. If you can't get rid of it this way, the only way to get rid of it is to re-format your pc.
