Riding the Rubicon Trail
#1
I can now say that i rode the Rubicon Trail,Or part of it.I made it to Spider Lake which is about 6 miles in and came back out.The weather was drizzely and rained most of the ride.I drove 108 miles to the trail; head and wasent going to let a little rain stop me.It took me 3hours or so to do the 5-6 miles to Spider Lake. The trail is one ROUGH trail.I had to winch the KQ over 3 places in order to keep from flipping over backwards.I was in 4 wheel drive from start to finish and had to use diff lock a few times.I noticed that the further you went the worse it got, but i had a blast. It is a good test for any 4 wheel drive machine and if you got fancy rims or dont want to scrape paint with the rocks, don't go.A full lenght skid plate also comes in handy cause them rocks are nasty.I did see jeeps and other 4x4 rigs,it was fun watching them.I do know that i want to do it again but want to do it with other people,it's safer that way.You can do it by your self but i dont recommend it.I have ridden in some rough places, but this was the worst and i MEAN it is ROUGH.You got to take your time and keep your mind on the trail.Having a winch is a MUST.Doing the Rubicon on a quad is a blast but a challenge.I had a good time but my body sure is SORE today.......BOB

King and I will definately be doing the RUBBY sure would be nice to have you along,I to have pick-up and camper so am all set.I don't know if it would help time wise, just give idea, but we ran the Poison spider and gold bar all the way on ATV's in around 6 hrs.We done some playing and still made it in good time.Alot faster than the jeep thing! Come one come all.I guess it is a set plan that Chickenman and i are going to do the Rubby.I know that quads can go alot faster than the jeeps. But i think takeing a few days(2)to do it would be the smart thing.I started from loon Lake and it took me 3-4 hours to get to Spider lake, about 6 miles. My arms hurt and my body was sore. But then again im not 20 any more.So lets all keep in contact and when you all get ready just give a holler. My brother from Idaho wants to join us.I will see what his time table is like.....BOB

3tv..I sent you an E-mail,But i got this brain storm. And i wanted to know what you thought. You have done the Rubicon in a jeep.I don't know if you were with any of the jamboree groups.I thought since thier is a year to plan this ride,Why not have a ATV jamboree of our own.I know that this may sound like a wacked out idea.Thier would have to be a few ground rules and all,and maybe set a max on how many riders we can have. This is just a thought. So far with the guys from the other board we have 6 of us that want to ride the trail.Im not counting the wifes so im sure it will be more.Well what do you think?.Would this be a good idea or more trouble than its worth....BOB

This sounds like a lot of fun!
The first 2 weeks of August would not work for me as I have other plans. In fact, I have lots of plans. July & August are usually pretty booked up for me, but for a ride like this I could skip some of the other activities (but not the first 2 weeks in August). My preference would be early - mid June, but I can be flexible. Right now it is too early for me to say for sure if I can even make the trip, but I will say that I would *like* to.
Ya know, Moab is about half-way between here and Rubicon ... maybe worth a detour on the way out or on the way back ... or both!
But then again, I guess Moab would be a bit on the *warm* side that time of year.

Ive been wanting to do the rubicon for years but my quads would not be ideal for the job (a Banshee set up for MX) actually a Banshee would probably be the absolute worst quad for trail rides,,,anyways I was wondering if it is possible to rent ATV's suitable for that kind of riding anywhere around or in Tahoe, and if there is anyplace ,do you have to have a guide or can you ride free, cause if its possible i'd love to ride with some experienced riders and have a blast rockcrawlin for a while! Any help or info. would be appreciated
