what is your biggest trophy ever, what gun do you shoot? what state ( area please keep confidential if desired) i hunt in northern wisconsin, there are about 550,000 deer hunters in wisconsin about 1.2 million deer in wisconsin, and i shoot a 30.06 with scope, buddies shoot 270, 280, 12 gauge. My dream rifle is the Remington model 700 BDL, 300 remington Ultra Magnum. but it really does not matter to me what gun i shoot, you could hunt with a 22 long rifle, and kill a deer, it all has to do with hitting it in the right spot, but 30.06 works, way too many guns on Remington.com, i want a 300 ultra mag. caliber. 30.06 will do.

300 Ultra mag, well you must be thinking about hunting the badlands and shooting 500 yards! I shoot a BDL 270 with a 700 classic stock. Biggest trophy so far a raghorn bull elk and it almost killed me and my buddy getting it off the mountain. Shot a muley a couple weeks ago, 16" spread not real big but okay for me. Oh, and a couple whitetail does I popped on a dead run for extra meat. Yummy corn fed!

 

See my pictures for my moose and caribou, I haven't shot a monster buck yet, 9 pointer is the best so far. For the whitetail I use 12 gauge while in MN and Iowa (no rifles allowed) and .308 Browing BLR or .300 Win Mag Browning BAR while in Minnesota or North Dakota. I am going to be handing the .308 off to the wife, and I will get me a Browing 270 WSM in either a BAR or BLR. Not sure yet. There are so many good calibers and guns out there you can't go wrong.

 

I shoot a rugar model 77 in .270 win.

it carries a fixed 6X Zeiss scope, and i load my own 130 gr. btsp's.

as far as trophies go, my biggest buck is a 10 point (120 class) whitetail.

but the shot im most proud of was a coyote on the run at 325 yds.

I just killed a pie bald button buck on Nov 6 with my bow....but I rifle hunt with a Remington 30.06 and a .270 both. I live in central WV, and my best buck is a 130" 8 pt.

 

does any one know the Max size for the 300 Rem. ultra Mag. grain wise, the highest i see is 200, but thats for safari,and other big game, what is the average grain used for deer hunting, i was just curious to see how high the 300 rem ultra mag. goes up in size, and 200 grain is the top one, on remintons site, the lowest i seen is 150 grain, and the 300 has pretty big bullets, weather it be short action or the normal size, but iwas jsut wondering if any of you knew?

I don't hunt but came into work this morning to hear a funny story, another coworker went out hunting over the weekend and went out to his blind to find a dear laying down near the corn pile. he happened to have a hammer with him for some odd reason and snuck up on the deer and hit it over the head with the hammer. he got it and gutted it. what a strange way to get a deer huh.
