Always been partial to Rockford Fosgate for subs and amps. Just because a sub says it'll handle 800 watts rms, doesn't mean you have to have a 800 watt rms amp. BUT, usually the better you match your power requirements (sub) to output (amp), the more crisp and clean the sound at higher volumes.
You can push most 12" subs with a good small mono-channel amp. I wouldn't hesitate to push an 800 watt sub with a high quality 200 watt amp. The dealers won't tell you that. And I'm not arguing an 800 watt amp would be better if money grew on trees, but here in the real world.....
Etronics . com seems to have pretty good prices and a good selection if you're a do-it-yourself type person.
PS - Low-dollar no-name amps and subs are trash. PLEASE don't waste your money on something like Pyramid.
