Default Ford f-350 gas mileage

my uncle has a 99 ford f-350 V-10 (which is a gas engine) with a manual transmission// he says that the gas mileage is alright, but he wants to put a 6 inch lift kit and 35" tires on it// my question is how much worse will his MPG be/ thanx

it will effect it alot, because the engine has to turn those big wheels, which takes more power, and be sure to tell him to correct his speedo because when you have bigger tires your speedometer is off by about 20mph. a v-10 uses a lot of gas the way it is, with these gas prices, i wouldn't drive it unless needed.

If he put a 6" or even a 4" lift kit and left the stock tires, would this affect the mpg and how would it look

the point of a lift is to get bigger tires under there, it would look kind of like a monster truck with little spair tires on it. thats a decent size lift too, i do not know what the average mpg is right now, but it will steal a good 2 or 3, because turning bigger tires would take more, but it wouldn't really take anything away from the mpg with stock tires and a lift kit, but who leaves stock wheels and tires on a lifted truck. no one that i know, but it will effect it with bigger tires, and note: if you get bigger wheels, reset the speedo it will be off by at least 20 mph.

well it depends on what size tire he has right now. on my 92 f-350, with the 460 in it, its a gas hog. i get anywhere fron 5-10mpg. well it had, i think, 31 inch tall stock tires. we put 33 on it and it increased the gas mileage (not a real noticeable amount) by lowering the gear ratio. the reason why is that 460 has more than enough ***** to turn those tires like theyre not even there. if you have stock, and go only 1-2 inches bigger tire, its a possibility to increase the mpg.

your not gonna get good mileage out of that gas job no matter what...

BigBeezy,

I would try this question over at Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums, they have groups for both Superduty trucks and a V10 engines.

You could also try over in the Gas Engine section of The Diesel Stop. This is another Superduty forum. Although it is mostly regarding diesels, they also have a v10 section.

Don
