Default video editing software

I was just wondering what a good program would be for editing videos. I don’t know much, actually anything about editing videos and what something that’s easy to use and not to complicated. Something I could just load up and start messing around with to really get a feel for how it’s done. Im looking for something that isn’t that complicated but not something you would need for a professional video, although it would be nice if there was one that could produce professional like results that would also be easy to use.

I use Pinnacle Studio 9. It's the easiest to use but has some serious bugs as well. Kind of a toss up... Shop eBay and stay away from the Special Edition version, it's very limited.

download.com. They usually have most of anything you are looking for as free trials. When your time runs up you reset the clock on your computer to some date during the length of the trial and you have a free trial version any time you want. And one other thing I noticed, when I ran this through spell check the word “they” right after “download.com.” it kept trying to capitalize “They” when it wasn’t and trying to un capitalize it when it was. I know its off topic but it made me laugh for about a minute or two.

For simple and easy to use, it's hard to beat Movie Maker. It comes with windows XP and it's free. I have Pinnacle also and it's just to slow and always reading/writing to the HD.

Windows xp came with a video editing software? If so there’s good and bad. Good, I have xp so I have the program (I would assume). Bad, until I reformat my whole computer I will have 2000. Im not sure if it can run one windows 2000 but Im guessing it would work since most of everything works with xp, me, 2000, and maybe 98.
