What are your most useful accessories , either factory or homemade ?

On my machine I carry a Rubbermaid roughtote at all times, bungee corded to the rear rack , it's great for hauling all the little stuff ( T.P. , spotlight , fix-a-flat , tow strap , winch accessories ,first aid kit , rain jacket , ect..) My other stuff includes a Warn winch, Kolpin gun boot , insulated handlebar mitts and a gas tank saddle bag which is great for cell phone , wallet , goggles , gloves , truck keys , ect..

Thanks for any input .

One of my most useful excessories is a homemade deer stand carrier. I like to use is a metal ladder stand that breaks down into three sections. The carrier is made of wood and rests on top of my Bayou 220's rear rack, holding the three sections stacked on top of each other. I decided to build something made of wood to carry the sections in order minimize noise.

Hunters are often coming up with wierd contraptions to serve a particular purpose. I would be eager to hear what ideas other hunters have come up with.

A trailor hitch. It comes in handy for hauling a utility trailor around the yard with tree limbs or to park it in the yard where the truck whould have a harder time at getting at.

I recently installed some new stuff on my '99 Sportsman 500 for the upcoming hunting season. Last year when I purchased the SP500 in late August I really didn't have time, so I did it this year.

I recently added:
- API Power Pack ATV Bow Holder - a real nice secure way to haul your bow that comes with a nice camo cover if it's sloppy. It's the most secure mounting I have ever seen for a bow.
- Koplin's Gun Boot IV with the composite bracket is a lot better mount than the previous ones. It's real secure.
- Cabela's Weatherproof ATV Bag is a really nice bag for the rear rack that secures easily with velcro straps.
- C&C Tree Stand Buddy - I real nice tree stand carrier that fits real well to haul my BuckShot "BigShot" tree stand.

Last August-Sept '98 I added the following:
- Douglas .190's with J/L racing rings
- GoodYear Mud Runners
- Superwinch 2000 with handlebar switch
- Moose 60" Snow plow (winch mount)
- Supertrapp IDS headpipe & muffler
- DynoJet Kit w/K&N
- Removed EBS and added stock Clutch with Aaen Roller secondary.
- Override / rev-limiter bypass w/diode.
- Hitch Ball for towing
- Aluminum Thumb Throttle (my own)

It's finally getting the way I like it. Maybe another year or two . . .

Jack , I'm curios how come you removed the EBS on your Sportsman ? Usually the guys I've talked to with the newer Polaris's love the EBS .

I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't need EBS for riding here in Pensyvlania. I would probably feel different about it if I was in the Rockies. I think it brakes too harshly and hurts the performance. With EBS you reqally need to be carful about using hi-range. The first week I had it I was convinced that the conventional clutch would go on it along with An Aaen Roller Setup. It gives you about 50% of the engine braking above 5 mph that the stock setup does.

I tried an Erlandson kit with the EBS and hated it even more. I prefer a low rpm smooth engagement. I've just about got it where I happen to like it now. Actually if I could, I would like it to freewheel a little more. The brakes on the '99's work good with the 4-wheel hand and rear wheel foot hydraulic pedal, that's all I need. I just hate running all the time with my thumb on the throttle just to keep moving.

Okay, I have a 1996 Suzuki King Quad, I have made or added the following:

1) bypassed the start in neutral requirement, so I can start in any gear

2) bypassed the super lo range requirement for locking the front hubs so I can use it in any range, nice but it makes steering difficult.

3) Factory boot protectors on the front

4) Brake lights

3) Backup light, and yes it works when in reverse only

4) Had my son make up a plate with 2 3/4 inch holes and used a 1 7/8 trailer ball to hold it on and still have a place to put a clevis pin if I have to use a tow strap. It saves taking the ball on and off (my homemade yard trailer uses the 1 7/8 ball)

5) rocket ammo case on rear rack for storage, about $20 from northern hydraulics (Ask armyman how he likes it, he purchase one for each of his machines).

6) homemade rack to hold chain saw secure, but still allow quick access when doing trail cleanup (especially with Lehigh Valley ATV Association).

If any one has any questions on these please feel free to email me at ecbaatz@snet.net (it may be slow, provider is having problems) or bring it up here.

I've built a brush guard and added a Rule winch to the ES. I built a large box- up and rear of the rear rack for hunting junk. Ordered the lift kit and power kit for the snow this winter. Hope it helps. Getting started on a custom aluminum cab for real cold hunts this year. I built one for my king quad and it worked great for getting way back to my remote hunting areas on those real cold days. Building this one with canvas on the rear section for east removal if it warms up in mid day. Going to use Lexan windows again. That was real tough stuff. I got teased a little about my Flintstone Mobile but I was warm and I could stay out till dark and be warm coming back to the camp.

Pathfinder,

Do you still have the king quad, if not did you sell the enclosure with it, if not are you looking to sell it?

A lot of questions, but then I have a lot of interest.

Thanks,

I sold the King quad last fall but the new owner might sell the cab. I'm not sure. Did you get the picture I sent you through E-Mail?
I'm trying to design my new one now. Can't quite figure how I want to build the front window section. I want to be able to open part of the front window. But I don't want to add a lot of weight by a lot of bracing and frames.I' figure something out.
Kind of funny, WHen I built the first one, I was in Maine helping a sick friend with his hunting camp and I wanted to be able to ride the atv to some good hunting spots that couldn't be reached by jeep. It was way too cold to walk 15-20 miles and too cold to ride with the open atv. I used some old tubing I found at camp, some old plywood and some plexiglass one of the locals gave me. I took it for a test run and traveled a snowmobile trail to the wilderness store. The counter person say me coming down the mountain and he said to the people in the store. Look. Here comes the flintstone mobile. The day before the opening of hunting season, It snowed and sleeted like crazy and the road out of camp had trees hanging everywhere. Most of the hunters had fancy 4x4's and didn't want to tear them up so I was the only one who went out that day. I went hunting for a while but I had so much fun that I spent most of the day riding. I think I rode about 70 miles that day. It was a riot and I kept so toasty that I had taken my outerwear off.
