at one time i used to smoke a pack of cigs a day and chew a half a can of chew a day. i am only 25 and i quit smoking when i got out of high school. and i will tell you doesn't matter how long you smoked when you are addicted you are addicted. i smoked for about 6 years and i quit chewing when i was 22. it was a will strength battle for me and it was something i was going to do and i knew i was going to do it and i worked at. i cut down for a while then i would say i am gonna have 3 pinches of chew each day for this week and i am gonna keep them in for this long. then i narrowed it down more and more then pretty soon i was able to throw the can away. and i am talking bout the chewing cause it was 10 times harder to quit that then smoking. been over 3 years since i quit chewing and i don't crave anything. the first 2 months are rough then it is clear sailing every now and then i get a craving when i been drinking with my buddies but i won't and sometimes i will have a cig like once every 6 months and i wake up wondering why did i do that now my mouth tastes like crap. if you go tthe will strength you can conquer anything and if you want you can PM me i can help ya if you are serious.

I've been doing a lot of time in the emergency room and riding local rescue squads as part of the Paramedic class I'm in and let me tell ya, I will never smoke again. To see how miserable some of these older people are mainly because of their smoking habits is just sad. I guess you gotta die some how however, I don't want to die as miserably as these people are. It's sad.

Do yourself a favor and quit now.

I agree because it smells up everything, my mom smokes and for the past year or so when I am in the car or something with her I just can't stand the smell.

Where I live dipping and drinking is a huge problem with the kids my age so my school took care of the dipping part, they brough a guy in that had been dipping since he was 12 and at about the age of 18 he had to get his toung removed and his jaw reconstructed so that helped many of the kids at least say they were going to quit.

As for the drinking it is still a big problem, at the basketball game the other Friday night all anyone of the kids were talking about was the big party that everyone was going to. I don't drink, I just can't see the pleasure in drinking poisoin to get a "buzz" then the next morning wake up in your own vomit. It might be better in moderation but when everyone is talking about shotgunning 13 in a row I don't think that is moderation.

I gotta agree with RSeB. The first month is the worst but it gets easier as time goes on. My problem is I kick smoking for a few months and while I am having a beer with the boys or some how I want a cigarette and there is one available, I have it, Because I quit a couple of months ago and one is no big deal. The a few weeks later its no big deal again. Then afew days later.....It sneaks back up on me. I have quit like this about five times. I have been on the wagon again now since friday. So good luck quitting. And I tried the patch last time and it helped quite a bit. But start on the middle one because the beginning one is equal to two and a half packs....kinda rough.

Hondarulesinnc,
your a very smart young man. There is NOTHING COOL about overinduldging in toxins [booze] and most folks your age dont understand WHAT they are over intoxicating their bodies with now, will only get MUCH worse as the years goes on.

Its sad, because even ME, when I was young, use to party pretty hard, but we never had the EDUCATION advantage that you guys have now,it was also a socially acceptable thing to be all flopped up at a party.Today, there is much we know about the dangers of alcoholism and drug abuse.

Many years later, when I look at my buddies that I use to party with, many are washed up alcoholics with no direction.

Keep your head on straight, you'll live a much more productive life.

I quit smoking because I'm cheap. Add up the cost of smoking (however much you do) and see what you spend in a year. Of course, when I quit, they went from 99 cents to a dollar a pack. Quit right then. No regrets and back then, that added up to 365 dollars a year. Think of what you'd save with today's prices. Can buy extra mods or all kind of stuff.

I quit smoking a few years ago pretty much cold turkey. Then one evening I was drunk and was offered a cig, so I smoked it. Since then I have smoked more often, but I have told myself that I'am not going to smoke another cig again and I plan to stick to it this time.
