This isn't a big brainstorm or anything. But I took some pads off of an old work out bench, and cut them on one side, and clamped them on my back bumper. That helps when you have to pull some one out or help some one with bad brakes down a steep hill. You dont skin up your bumper that way.

Greetings,
I spend a fair amount of my riding time on a dirt road and I like being able to check on what's behind me. I got an ATV mirror and found it hard to attach, hard to keep still, hard to see, in the way, and a general nuisance. So I picked up a little bicycle mirror at Sears (about $5) and attached it out on the front rack instead of on the handle bars. It gives a much better view of things and isn't up on the bars where there's already plenty of stuff wired on.
Must confess, I got the idea from the helpful tips page of Successful Farming magazine -- they recommended one on each side of the rack, especially if you're doing some towing.
Thanks,
Rod [98 450ES ...and its yellow]

Thanks for sharing the "tidbit" about a rack-mounted rear view mirror, Rod!
I believe a mirror definitely useful when riding with a large, heavy-traffic contingent, like the Cochranton, PA, Poker Run (~6,000 ATV's) or Marienville, PA's Tour de Forest. A rear view mirror should come in especially handy when riding with a group in one of these mele'es; without a mirror it's hard to check on whether your buddies are still behind you when you must concentrate on the traffic and the trail ahead at all times. Glancing backwards while at speed in congestion can be hazardous.

From any plumbing department, you can buy water pipe insulating tubes. They come in black 3' lengths. I think I bought 6 of them for $ 2.50 or so. It is a foam type material which is slit down the middle, so that you could easily place it over a pipe. I cut these into approx. 5" pieces and fit them onto the front and rear racks to protect them if your carrying stuff, or whatever. I used tie wraps to hold the tubes in place. It works great, and for under $ 3.00, you cant loose.

That last post, Jeremy, was about Pflueeb again showing his . . .; showing his . . .; showing his ignorance: Bob unfortunately cannot distinguish between an apostrophe and an accent (').
Although superscripting a vowel with an accent is difficult on the American keyboard, I certainly tried. I make enough genuine mistakes; no need exists fabricating them.
Only an illiterate nitpicker would likely respond (who suggested others "get a life?").
But hey, Bob! Surely you've developed "tidbits," wrinkles, kinks of your own in your ATVing experience. Instead of criticizing the posts of others, why not post something constructive, sharing your knowledge with the readership and returning to the subject of the topic?

P.S. Bob, please; do not use the fact the flat-topped Polaris composite racks make good resting-places for your beverage container while you grease your Zerks. You've already used that one!

I use a whip antenna for my spider web catcher, these are great in the woods plus everybody seems to want you to lead when you have one. I bought a big pvc pipe and connected treaded end caps on both sides to carry tools and other little things, then I used large zip ties to hold it to my rear rack. This was used on my 300ex after the toolbox fell off. Another one is a fanny pak straped to the handlebars for carrying a wallet and other goodies.

In addition to a collection of handy tools, I carry a bicycle tire pump.
I just bought a bicycle mirror at WalMart for 2.50 and mounted it on the right side of my Scrambler 500 handlebar. I guess all us geniuses (geniese's?) (Genies?) (Geewhiz?) must think alike.
