Whisky, the best advice is,when you are riding by yourself, dont play in the mud.I learned that way back in 87 when nobody was around and I stuck my 87KQ.Go back thru the older Forums,we listed alot of tips on getting yourself un-stuck.=====BILL

Hmmm...well i think there is a certain point you get too, when you are just stuck, and without the help of a chain or winch..you aint get out. I figure you might already no this..but as soon as you come to a stop in the mud and start spinning, the best thing is to get off of your quad before it bottoms out, put it in a higher gear and push it while spinning the tires slowly. In my opinion But if you are stuck/bottomed out..and your atv isnt too heavy try lifting up the back end and turning it 90 degrees to where the rear tires are sitting on top of some fresh mud, then gun it!!, this doesnt always work but sometimes it does. Oh yeah...try all of this after Reverse fails..

You could carry a shovel of some sort to dig under and around the quad and make a good path for the tires. And it helps traction to stuff sticks, grass, rocks, whatever, under the tires and in the tracks. I've freed my share of fullsize rigs this way.

To Whiskey, under the conditions you described. There is nothing you can do. I would suggest you buy a come-a-long winch and
carry that with you in the future. If you had
some one with you. You could have found a long large tree branch to use as a pry and a short thick log and use this to pry up tires and put smaller branches under the tires. You
generally need 2 people for that. I would suggest that you rig your self up better.

If worst comes to worst and it is accessible get one of your aluminum loading ramps and put it under the lowest rear tire and back it on out. This works really well but you have to have a ramp with the small bars that go across to get traction when it is muddy.

If you cant get the ramp back out of the mud just hook a tow strap to it and the ATV, that pulls it right out.
