Any boot is better than no boot. Personally, once I went to Alpinestars, I've never gone back.
I know you've already bought a pair, but check Rocky Mountain ATV out, they have sales most of the time. Tech 4's were 169 dollars. Plus they have all the other gear you'll need too.

Tech 4's are pretty flexible in the ankle area. I only wear mine for very technical trail riding where I might have to be off the bike and on foot a lot. I would NOT use them for any kind of high risk riding like jumping, etc.
I wear Tech 6's for general riding. They are quite stiff in the ankle and provide pretty good protection there.
If I were racing or jumping, I would want something like Tech 8's or 10's.

hey thanx everyone, i did look at rm atv and was going to buy the tech 4 atv boots and glad i didnt now that i hear they have weak ankle support. i'm an avid hockey player and with skates, good skates, the more u spend the stiffer and more supportive they are. I'm just finishing recovering from a broken right ankle and so I am looking for the most support i can get. so far i like my tracker's, seem like they have pretty good, stiff ankle support. can't really compare except to hockey where they aren't quite as stiff as my skates, but then again I think an even comparison would be my skate vs a high end boot. thanks again guys.

It's spring time. Take the blades off the skates, and presto, riding boots.
