4" of clear ice is considered safe for many activities. For the cars and trucks though I would think that one would prefer to see 6" or more. Somebocy from MI MN or there abouts should answer that question about safe thickness.

What do you mean Crazy?! You can do endless dougnuts on the ice! And they are not just front wheel piviots! The whole quad can rotate around and around! Tons of fun it is!

But do make sure of the safety of that ice before you venture onto it!

I have been doing some ice riding lately. I can drive on 1-1/2 inches of ice. I would not recommend trying this if the water is deep. To be safe while walking and riding a quad it needs to be about 6" thick. Trust me... this is not a good time to go swimming!

4-6" is usually enough, but just because it is that thick in some places, doesn't mean it is that thick in others. Coming from 'up north' we tend to go out on the ice a little too early.

I found a good web page on this. Pretty detailed.

I would never venture out on ice which I was not familiar with. I would only travel with residents of the area who know the currents or flows.

Care needs to be taken, and I know of insurance companies which won't insure if you are riding on Ice. Check to make sure.

Stud those tires, and have fun.
