Question for K&N Users...........
#1
First off, I ran K&N's with Outerwears on my quads for about a year. I stopped, because every time I changed filters I would wipe the intake boot out with a white cloth, to show if any dirt was passing. The cloth always came out with a fine film of dust, so I went back to UNI foam on everything.
But, I still have a K&N on my street truck. I run it with an "Air Force" foam wrap (sold by K&N!). K&N advertises the Air Force wrap as being for "extreme conditions". With the wrap, I am reasonably confident that I am not passing dirt, and I sleep better at night! Anyway, when I use K&N oil it seems to rapidly dry up! Got to wonder how much protection is left after this happens.
So, my question is, how many K&N users are using some other oil, like Maxima FAB1??? http://www.maximausa.com/products/fi...ilterspray.asp FAB1 is SUPER TACKY, and I can't imagine anything getting by this stuff! It is thick, and takes a lot of care and effort to be sure it gets into every pleat of the filter, but I feel like with an Air Force wrap, this should be the ultimate in protection.
I think PJ1 sells a super tacky fiber filter spray as well???

a little dust is bound to pass no matter what. good luck anyway.
I use Belray oil on my filters.

"A little dust?" That is like a little pregnant. I dont't personally care for K&N myself but what ever filter you use should not allow any dirt past the filter. Even a little can do a great deal of damage. When you breathe in dirt when riding you can tell clean air from the dirt, your engine is no different but the effects of having dirt go through it don't fix themselves with a little water , swish and spit.

If the K&N on your truck is drying out too fast, don't use it.
I've seen first hand on the 5.4L Ford engines, the intake sucks so hard that it actually pulls the oil out of the filter and into the intake. It gunks up the butterfly valves in the intakes and causes them to get stuck. I've heard of this a little with 4-wheelers too but generally with a carb you will just run a little rich for a few miles.

ss97-That's my whole point..........something like FAB1 is so tacky, it isn't going to get sucked in or dry out!
What I am looking for is some users with first hand experience........
