Default Washing My ATV & Air Filter Question

Okay,so i went out and got into some mud today, man was it fun,and this thing is covered in mud.My question is,how long after i ride to i have to wait to wash it,im wondering about cracking the hot engine with cool water.Second,is there any parts besides the ehhaust pipe i shouldnt spray directly on/or around? Also, what do you use to wash it?

Now,for my air filter question.I looked inside the air box last night and the filter was pretty dirty,it also seemed like it may have had gas all over it? But anyways should i get a new filter or should i wash it off/out and how?

Default Washing My ATV & Air Filter Question

Well, you can probably wait a good 20-30 minutes if you're that concerned about cracking the engine of your 400EX because it is running hot. I have splashed other air-cooled ATVs into very cold streams and rivers after 3-4 hours of hard riding in hot weather and not cracked an engine.

Sure, avoid the exhaust pipe and electrical connections.

I use Simple Green and car wash soap on my quad, a sponge and a good hose.

For the air filter, you probably have the stock foam filter (i'm guessing). So, take the filter out and pour some dish soap over it lightly. Gently massage the soap into the filter. Fill a bucket of water, and gently massage the filter in the water until all the soap, grime and grease comes off.

After the filter is completely dry, spray on some foam filter spray. Uni and Maxima make some foam filter sprays. Let the filter dry before re-installing it.

It is possible the filter had some fuel on it. A small amount is not going to hurt anything. However, if it was coated in gas you have got some carburetion problems.

wash your quad every few times u get it muddy at least..not just the hot engine will crack but over time the plastic will also start to
washing the air filter is easy just get a bucket with some water and dish soap and clean it in the bucket with ur hands... then clean the inside of the box out and put it back in DONT spray water in the air filter box
