Embarassed To Be An ATVer.........

I have a buddy who grew up on a farm in Arkansas. His mom is a widow, and has tried to stay back on the family farm for years, but her health is bad so she is out here in Calif. for a while. He went back to the farm to check on things, and found it all torn up by trespassing ATVers......and I mean that they turned the whole place into a huge mud wallow. The neighbors say they see very large groups of riders out there. Pretty sad! Somebody has shot the house all up too.........
He is going to have to spend thousands of dollars to fence the property, and with nobody there, there is no guarantee that someone won't just cut the fence anyway.

If he had good neighbors they would have called the Sheriff's Office. I know for sure that is what would have happened where our farm is. Maybe he can buy a video camera and get someone to tape the offenders.

Trouble is, the "neighbors" are a couple miles away, and can't keep a real close eye on it. The groups are so large, it sounds to me like a club is riding out there or something.
Thing is, this guy is kind of an "environmentalist" type, and it is just kind of an "I told you so" type situation from his point of view.........makes us all look really bad!

I don't think that activity would qualify as an atv club! Most likely part of what are called "the two-percenters" seems like in your case it may be more than 2%
Catchword: two-percenter
Part of Speech: n.
Quotation:
I’m fed up with what I call the “2-percenters’”.…This was a case of people coming and spoiling a great day. We have a handful of knuckleheads that come out here and disrupt things. We’re not going to take it, and we’re going to take appropriate action

I'd hope they come back.......so you can set up a camera and find out who it is. Take them to court and make them pay damages. Or else ask the neighbors to try and watch the place, so they can call the law if any ATV's are out there when they go by.

I know how you feel .When ATVing I stay on the trails and don't do any thing to cause damage and never litter..My idea of ATVing is going from point A to point B on the trail.I don't go out looking for hills or mud holes and spend all day driving in them..Also I try to stay out of rivers..We are getting a lot of flack here about ATV's and it's the people tearing up farmers fields and doing donuts and driving on paved roads causing this.
But what gets me is that they complain about a small ATV trail through the woods but they say nothing about the mess the tree farmers and trucks are doing as they clear cut down the trees..Many of the nice trails here are now, nothing but dusty logging roads..

That's a horrible story. I mentioned boobie traps to a enviro forum and they said that sometimes measures need to be taken...that site is down now!!!
